I fully acknowledge this is probably an overthink(hence the thread title).

There was once a time that ordinary life was hard enough work to keep a person relatively fit

Then we invented machines to spare us that work.

Then we invented machines (exercise equipment) to make us do work enough to stay fit.

I know we need to be good stewards of our bodies, but we are also to give of our time.

Should we be mowing old people’s front lawns instead of rowing to nowhere on a rowing machine?

I’ll have to think about it.

A very astute point. And you may have touched on why exercise seems so boring to me. I would rather be doing yard work than go to a gym.

I have often wondered what everyone is doing with all of this free time we have gained from machines doing all of our work. (More time on our phones, or on CAF?) Everyone seems to always be busy doing something.

The bigger problem I have is the paradox of when I was a kid, I couldn’t wait for gym class. Now that I’m an adult, I have to force myself to go to the gym.

Bikes on wheels that take us nowhere, roads that make us run in one spot, Sisyphean routines with heavy objects - it all seems like something Lewis could have included in The Great Divorce.

It would definitely be better if we could marry our bodies’ need for physical exertion with tasks that had more of a purpose.

Get you one of those under-desk elliptical machines…

Extra points if you wire it to power your laptop battery.

Probably akin to the paradox of not wanting to nap when you were a kid and wishing you could as an adult, Father.

I’m thinking you’re onto something, Sneeze. Or am I over thinking you’re onto something?

I think this every time I think about getting in shape, possibly to procrastinate on getting in shape… 🙃

Yes. There is no doubt about it. We should be doing what we can to stay active and help other. Why not kill two birds with one stone.

The people who use the elevators or escalators instead of the stairs all day long at work and to get to the second floor gym to use a step machine
