You’re prayers have been a wonderful encouragement to me. My dependence on God is all what keeps me from falling into despair. Most of my procedures are done at Mayo Clinic. Well actually at St. Mary’s hospital that is a part of the Mayo Clinic group. The chapel at the hospital is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, it looks more like a mini- Cathderal than a chapel. I spend a lot of time in prayer there when we are at the hospital. It is a huge consolation to be in a Catholic Hospital where I can pray before the Blessed Sacrament, and where I can recieve the Eucharist.

There is a song we used to sing at my old parish (although it was not paricularily popular on the forum according to the Hymm I Hate the Most thread.) I heard it at Mass the weekend before we had to leave for the clinic to have a prodedure done. It brought tears to me eyes and was a great comfort to me. It’s called Be Not Afraid.
Here are they lyrics:

**1. You shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst. You shall wander far in safety though you do not know the way. You shall speak your words in foreign lands and all will understand. You shall see the face of God and live.R. Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come follow me, and I will give you rest.2. If you pass through raging waters in the sea, you shall not drown. If you walk amid the burning flames, you shall not be harmed. If you stand before the pow’r of hell and death is at your side, know that I am with you through it all.3. Blessed are your poor, for the kingdom shall be theirs. Blest are you that weep and mourn, for one day you shall laugh. And if wicked men insult and hate you all because of me, blessed, blessed are you!**You all have been medicine for my soul. Thanks so much! God Bless you.

:blessyou: Dear rayne89,

Thank you for sharing your heart. And I thank Jesus for the Body of Christ and His being in the Catholic forum. I can relate to your feeling of being overwhelmed. I too homeschool and feel behind on the housework, bills, etc.

But now that my kids are graduating I can be thankful for some of the good fruits of homeschooling. so hang in there. Our eldest son is a very valued employee at his workplace,. and our eldest daughter has been making dean’s list in one of the most highly acclaimed colleges in the country. And she is one of my heroes that I’d like to share about. When she was about 13,. she was having all kinds of physical problems–I was always running her to the doctor for a couple years-- but then she just started to improve and one day she told me that she just got so tired of going to the doctor she decided to try to imitate some of the saints and offer her symptoms up. Now she seems very healthy and like I said
achieves very well in college. Not that that is right for everyone to give up on doctors but like I said I admire her for what she has done in her life. She is one of the most virtuous people I know so far in her short life. But please pray for her that she can stay as devoted to her faith as she has been. I know sometimes in college it is a test of faith.
The other person I thought of sharing is another homeschool mom who also had some serious health problems.
She and all her children and spouse are daily mass goers and she is the most cheerful and sweetest person I have known in spite of her health problems. Well she too made a trip to Mayo clinic and the docs gave her a clean bill of health! so you never know what Jesus will do. I will pray for you at mass, rayne as I try to go each day. And I would ask your prayers for my family as well. My husband has had some emotional and faith problems and of course that has afffected all our family. But I know that "God works all to the good for those who love HIm’ and “nothing can seperate us from Him” Praise God! M.h.

I had heart surgery down at Mayo. Its a good place to go for serious illness. I also love Be Not Afraid. It lifts me up when I hear it and sing it. It is one of those newer hymns based on scripture that often contain the consoling words of God, but which some folks reject because they see the “I” in the hymn as meaning a human being and not God who is speaking through human persons as he did and does in scripture. My wife often feels overwhelmed dealinjg with my illnesses and insurance and billing etc. She recommends a book by Thomas Moore called Dark Night of the Soul. It is not the Thomas Moore of Henry VIII s staff. I will include you in my prayers also. By the way I have two friends who eventually had a heart transplant over a decade ago and they are doing better than I am with my original equipment. 🙂 🙂 🙂

God bless you rayne. I pray that you and your family are strong enough to fulfill whatever God’s plan is for you 🙂
