I understand that when a vetitum is placed on a Catholic annulment, it signifies that a restriction has been placed on that person’s ability to remarry in the Catholic Church. That “prohibition” can only be lifted after clergy has been assured by a trained counselor or therapist that the person seeking remarriage after annulment has been cleared or “made well” of whatever was seen as a psychological flaw that caused the breakdown of the previous marriage. Here is my question:

I am seeking divorce from a man who had a P#2 VETITUM placed on his annulment from a diocese in California. We went through counseling as prescribed by my local clergy (not in CA) and my husband was “cleared”. We were married 15 months ago. This has been the most harrowing time of my life. He played nice enough, but after the vows, he became emotionally, verbally, financially and at times physically abusive. I literally ran. So now, I am wondering what exactly that P#2 code means. I cannot find this anywhere. The priest that married us ran into similar dead ends in reaching the meaning of this. Please. I need some help with closure of this terrible time in my life.

I think the only way anyone here could answer that is if they work for that tribunal or have some experience with it. Personally, I’ve never heard of it.
