What a wonderful site this morning to see our church full of people. And this is just a glimpse of what is going on today. Catholics (and other Christians) turning to God in repentance. Acknowledging that we are full of sin and are kneeling before Him asking for his help to TRANSFORM us. May this spirit spread to all that we all turn to God humbly during these next 40-46 days and ask for forgiveness from our wonderful God of Mercy.

yes! it was a nice thing. we should go a step further and pray for a packed church every day!

what mystifies me down here is the number of people who come to Church today but do not return at Easter. It is the single busiest, fullest day in the Churches here.

My take on that is that they are in church, but in churches in their hometowns or wherever they go to be with family on the holidays.

I attend Mass in the city I live in. However, I travel to my hometown on the holidays. Nothing galls me more than those priests who make a point of chiding the packed church on why he doesn’t see them in the pews “every Sunday.” Churches are packed because families go to Mass together on the holidays, it doesn’t mean they don’t attend during Ordinary time by themselves in their resident towns. Grrr…

I have a friend that attends Mass on Ash Wednesday and maybe 2 Sundays a year.

I was amazed at the number of people in church tonight. The distribution of the ashes went on for ever, and when it came to the collection, the collectors had still not finished at the Consecration, so had to kneel where they were, and then finsh collecting during the Our Father! Apparently the 8am Mass and the two lunchtime Masses were the same.

Have you taken into account the number of masses offered on Ash Wednesday as compared to Easter Sunday? I think my parish has only 2 masses on Ash Wed but 4 or 5 masses on Easter Sunday (including the vigil), hence it would kind of make sense if the church is only about half as full on Easter as it is on Ash Wed.

here it is the opposite 5-7 services, plus 2-3 Masses on Ash Wednesday, Easter Vigil plus regular mass Schedule on Easter. 4 Christmas eve Masses which are packed, one on Christmas day, which is half empty.

I’m happy your church was packed. Our local church has 10 Masses every Sunday and they are always all packed.

My church was packed as well- standing room only if you came close to start time. There were 3 masses on Ash Wed. in my parish, however most people work so I think I was at the busiest one in the evening.
