Padre Pio said SO MANY rosaries in a day

How did he do it??

So I was reading about Padre Pio and I read that he usually did about THIRTY rosaries a day and sometimes FIFTY! That just seems unbelievable! Seems like he would have been praying all day while he did everything.

Does anyone know how long it took him to do a single rosary? It would seem like he would have had to have been praying them fast. Maybe like 10 minutes a rosary? I’m guessing the answer is no, but are there any audio recordings of Padre Pio praying the rosary?

I don’t know how many rosaries padre pio actually used to do but I know many saints would do a ridiculously high amount of rosaries. The holy priest of are for example would sleep very little and eat very little. Instead of eating and sleeping he would be praying the rosary. If you take into account that they are hardly eating sleeping then a very high amount of rosaries is very possible. I am not sure about 30 but certainly he did a high amount.
 
It’s said that Pope John XXIII also prayed the rosary pretty much constantly. He was always fingering the beads in his pocket.
Certainly a very pious practice of very holy persons…
I myself, consider that if I pray a single rosary daily with love, humility, and few distractions, that’s “WIN” for me. 😉 Sometimes it’s all I can manage.
But it is fascinating to read about the prayer lives of Saints.

He was also able to bi-locate and survive on only two hours of sleep and very little food. The rest of us are not gifted with these extraordinary graces. God gave those to him as a gift to the Church, so that Padre Pio was able to serve the Church as God willed him to. We as Catholics are called to serve God according to our state in life, which for most of us is where one rosary is sufficient. 😉
 
This is the story of just one rosary a day:

About a month ago my daughter-in-law who is pregnant with her second child was diagnosed with placenta previa - a condition that is dangerous for both the baby and the mother. Three weeks ago she began seeing a doctor that specializes in high risk pregnancies, and I began saying a rosary each night for the intentions of my son and daughter-in-law to have a healthy baby and a safe delivery.

This morning my daughter-in-law had a sonagram, and the placenta is now 3.5 cm off the cervix - no more previa. While this is something that sometimes happens, it was unexpected in this case because the cervix was completely blocked and because of my daughter-in-law’s medical history which includes surgery to remove an ovary due to ovarian cancer; two miscarriages; and one pregnancy during which the fetus was not “viable” ultimately requiring a dnc.

I think if we said the rosary in all our down times we’d probably get more than one a day said. I think of the times I have stood in line frustrated and angry, I could use that time to say the rosary. While doing house work, driving in the car, travelling on public transit. There are so many lost opportunities.

First: Padre Pio was a religious.

Second: Padre Pio was a mystic. The sort of spiritual life a mystic lives is not one we can grasp. It is possible that he may have always had the prayer in mind in a contemplative way of some sort.

I read a few anecdotes on the matter. So many anecdotes on this humble friar. Hopefully they are truthful.

Anyways…the first anecdote goes that a confrere, Michelangelo da Cavallara, asked Padre Pio how many Rosaries he had prayed that day, and he replied: about 30. Wondering about how would this be possible, he inquired on the matter to Fr. Agostino, Padre Pio’s spiritual director. Brother Agostino, it seems, laughed at Brother Michelangelo’s surprise and replied: “So you want to know how! But first explain to me who a mystic is…then I will explain to you how can Padre Pio recite in one day so many Rosaries!”

Another anecdote, attributed to his spiritual daughter Cleonice, goes as follows: Padre Pio was joking with his spiritual son, a doctor Delfino, and asked him: “what do you doctors say, can a man carry out several actions at the same time?” The doctor replied: “well, I think two…”. Padre Pio replied: “I arrive up to three.” And (third anecdote) a Brother Tarciso, close confrere of Padre Pio, recounts he once told him: “I can do three things at once: pray, confess, and go around the world”. Mysteries of Christ’s closest friends! 🙂

Awesome! I greatly believe in the graces of the Rosary. Congrats to your daughter in law and you, grandma to be. Prayers for a safe full term pregnancy with a healthy baby and mom. She is blessed to have a MIL who prays for her.

15 minutes a day he got so good at it he could talk to you are pray simotaiously

Pray the Rosary on Video. Set to Loop. If you have the faith, you just prayed the rosary every single time it loops.
 
They don’t pray the opening prayers of the Rosary in Italy (at least not normally), so Padre Pio’s Rosary may have taken him around 10 minutes to pray, probably even a little less time. God bless you.
