Padre Pio's accounts about his stigmatas plagiarized from another Saint?

This isn’t exactly new. I’m (very slowly - it’s not a page turner!) reading “Padre Pio: Miracles and Politics in a Secular Age” by Sergio Luzzatto. He writes about the possible plagiarizing as well as evidence of Padre Pio using carbolic acid to produce the stigmata.

I would ignore nonsense like that. It’s just like the book(s) out there that claimed Mother Theresa died as an atheist. Propaganda and nonsense.

Hello Marco.
Hello,

I have read that the accounts given by Saint Padre Pio on receiving the stigmatas were copied from those by Gemma Galgani, another italian Saint.

I haven’t read both accounts. If anyone has, could you tell us if they are so similar to be a copy?

Thank you 🙂

Here is an opinion about this: stgemmagalgani.com/2008/09/st-padre-pios-devotion-to-st-gemma.html

Others ? 😃
Since they both are Saints I think they both are credible.

Just goes to show you that some people will believe anything except the truth. God Bless, Memaw

You should investigate instead the many medical studies ordered by the Vatican to make sure St. Padre Pio was NOT faking the stigmatas.
Guess what, Never ever could anyone prove that he faked them.
But the enemies of the Church are many and all have 1 instigator.

Why not see such things as an example of God’s consistency in the way he operates in the lives of his kindred souls we call Saints. As opposed to seeing it as theft. After reading the article it seems to me that St. Pio and St. Gemma are like a spiritual dream team. As if God put Alex Ovechkin and Sid Crosby or Payton Manning and Calvin Johnson or (for our international brethren) Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi on the same team. We should applaud and cheer the fact they worked as a team for God. It must’ve been exciting to have such exceptional servants of God available like that. I hope God does this again.

How do we know it is nonsense? For instance, Mother Theresa lost the presence of God; even if she wasn?t an atheist, no one can say she felt a strong divine presence.

I tend not to ignore nonsense and propaganda, but to fight them. To do so, I have to consider and know them. First though, I have to be fairly sure of what I am talking about. I can’t therefore ignore the questions I have.

They are credible, that is sure, but Saints sin, Prophets lie, etc. I am not saying they weren’t saints, I am asking about some things that could have been misunderstood, namely the accounts of the visions.

I am not having doubts on the stigmatas, but on how S. Pio told he received them.

Ok, i will repeat :D. If someone has thee two accounts, I would like to compare them. Thank you. I am not doubting of the holiness of S. Pio. I am saying, maybe what is called a plagiarism was an identification or else.

Do you realize what you are saying? Basically, you’re saying if one account of Stigmatization is similar to another, they may be faked. There are many accounts of them among the Saints, either partial or full. Read up on them. Keep in mind they are an imitation of our Lord’s own Wounds which He retained after His Glorification and they were visible to not only St. Thomas, but the others there as well. That is the Model for all accounts and types. They’ve also been recorded as visible to those who have seen Jesus through the millennia at various times by various Saints. The study of the Saints is very fascinating and can yield rich rewards. Good luck and God bless.

I do realize what I am saying, but I am not saying they are fake. I can’t read on them because I can’t manage to find them both. What I would like to know is how similar they are.
You guess I want to debunk this idea of plagiarism, not support it don’t you? 😃
If you read my previous messages, you may see it.

Am I too late to this discussion? I understand the original question and I’m sorry to say that it troubles me. Yes indeed, saints have sinned and even good people are tempted to lie. I want to be able to defend my Catholic faith with pure reason and it is reasonable to question the accounts of Padre Pio if they are the same as Gemma Galgani’s, verbatim. Please don’t insult the original person who posted or me by implying we’re are being swayed by Satan.

Did he plagiarize other saints or just state the same things they did with regard to his stigmata, which were consistent with all stigmatic’s ?

Personally, Padre Pio is my least favorite saints.

I read his bio years ago and his hot temper and lack of concern for people struggling with their day to day lives turned me off.
