“For all the gods of the nations are demons: but the LORD made the heavens.” -Psalm 96:5

Pagan gods and goddesses were probably representations of numinous imagination while demons masqueraded in their guise, convenient for them to manipulate people while hiding their true nature. Angels may have hindered the demonic influence — even by introducing genuinely benevolent aspects — so it wasn’t quite 1:1 demon-worship.

Marvel has incorporated an impressive list of pagan gods in their comics, including Irish and Celtic gods. DC hasn’t managed quite the same reach, but they did have a version of the monotheistic God — “The Presence” (or “the Source”).

Is your Google broken?

A little research would go a long way, instead of flying off the handle at all Christians immediately upon seeing something you don’t agree with.
In fairness to you both, I should’ve mentioned that I use the Septuagint instead of the Masoretic. The Greek says “δαιμόνια”; the Hebrew says “elilim” (idols) - which might not be any better of course.

@Anrakyr: One Greek saint (Paisios) said the Greeks just “made up” their 12 Olympian gods. Also, the Psalms are poetic - so my view is the same as Neithan and (name removed by moderator)

You won’t get around Paul calling the pagan sacrifices “the cup of demons” in 1 Corinthians 10, though.

I understand that but look below where I quoted; @Aulef and @mythbuster1 both react more or less like:

“Well yeah.”

I’m not grinding an axe, this is the attitude we get.
I think the best interpretation was the one Neithan gave: sometimes different groups conceived of gods (gotta explain lightning somehow), and then not-so-benevolent spirits co-opted these images for their advantage. That doesn’t mean we condemn everyone who believed in them (cf. the “gentiles with the law written on their hearts”). Also, if it’s worth anything, one of my close friends growing up was a Norse neopagan (Mjollnir pendant / Viking-style sacrifices / etc.)
