When do those of us in RCIA get told all this interesting tidbits? Will there be a special meeting once I convert to tell me all the top secret beliefs that Protestants aren’t allowed to know? Will I finally learn the secret Catholic handshake?
For secret handshakes you need to go to the Mormon church. 😛

Sadly, I’m not actually kidding about this.

Good thing I have my secret Templar Decoder Ring to understand all of this.:rotfl:

I am eagerly awaiting the revelation on the real reason Scotsmen wear the kilt

If Chick wrote it, it is most likely wrong.

2 Corinthians 12
1I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. 2I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell. 5I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. 6Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say.
7To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Many of these physical disabilities also affect the eyesight and it seems probable that even Paul himself experienced difficulty with his vision—this could very well be caused by his thorn in the flesh. Paul took advantage of various amanuenses to do the actual writing of at least some of his epistles. A mentioned amanuensis of Paul is Tertius who wrote down the book of Romans and added his own greeting to the church in Rome (Rom 16:22). Other times we see Paul adding a salutation with his own hands (1 Cor 16:21; 2 Thess 3:17) as opposed to physically writing the entire epistles. Paul even wrote in large print as noted in Gal 6:11. Other evidences of poor vision can be found earlier in the epistle to the Galatians. Paul says that because of physical infirmity he preached the gospel to the Galatians at the first (Gal 4:13). Some have speculated that the physical infirmity was a disease which affected his eyesight and the higher altitude in Galatia would have been better for him, especially if the disease was malaria. And only two verses later Paul states that the Galatian church would have plucked out their own eyes and given them to him if it were possible (Gal 4:15). Another example of Paul’s poor eyesight is found in Acts 23:3-5. Paul was in the Sanhedrin at this point and referred to the high priest as a “white-washed wall” and those who stood by him asked why he was insulting the high priest. Paul responded by telling them that he did not realize that the man was the high priest. Though Paul, previously being a Pharisee, would have been able to recognize the high priest quite easily. Yet at this point he seemed unable to identify the high priest, even though the high priest would have stood out because he wore special garments and accessories. For a former Pharisee to have not recognized him is likely explained through understanding that Paul was not able to see him properly—giving weight to theories of trouble with his vision.

Socrates:
Why is Paul Suffering?

On January 25, Catholics commemorate the conversion of Saul of Tarsus who would become the Apostle Paul. Nowhere does the bible command us to commemorate this event and it is common knowledge that Paul was not converted on January 25, but rather on February 17 or June 4…or something like that…at least we know it sure as heck wasn’t January 25. In fact, the date and origin of this Catholic “holy” day have nothing at all to do with the Paul of the bible.

In ancient Babylon, there was a pagan priest named P’aal who worshipped dirt (in addition to preaching a doctrine of salvation by works). P’aal experienced a stabbing pain in his lower back while trying to bow down to the dirt and needed to stand up and stretch. Upon rising, he saw a great oak tree and his pain subsided a bit. P’aal took this as a sign that the true god was really the tree and not the dirt in which it grew. (P’aal, of course, continued preaching salvation by works.) When did this “conversion” of P’aal’s occur? January 25, of course!!! (for documentation of this, see Alexander Hyslop’s Conjecture: History for Gullible Audiences or the comic tract Those Dirty Pagan Scumsucking Dogs Will Burn in Hell Forever HA HA HA HA HA, which illustrates how to lovingly present the gospel to poor lost Catholics).

The evidence of P’aal’s influence on Catholic worship is apparent even today. In fact it is not uncommon for there to be large oak trees growing on the grounds of some Catholic churches. Also, the pews of many Catholic churches are made of oak. Sometimes even the CHURCHES THEMSELVES are constructed using oak! In some Catholic schools, kindergarteners are forced to use oak leaves --sometimes even acorns– in Autumn arts and crafts projects!. This is attested to by Alberto Rivera who spent much of his life pretending to be an ex-Catholic priest. Dave Hunt’s book, Stuff I Just Made Up, also goes into great detail about Catholic Oakolatry.

Catholics have been duped since birth into believing that they are Christians instead of the pagan oak tree worshippers that they really are. Some have even resorted to reading and studying the bible in order to cover up their oak tree worship. Some of them even claim to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The deception cannot be allowed to continue. If you love Catholics, you must tell them what idiotic stooges of Babylonian paganism they are.

Never get info from Chick publications. We also celebrate John the baptists martyrdom, his birth, the feast of Polycarp, Irenaeus, Ignatius of Antioch, Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, John Chrysostom, Ambrose, Basil, and many others. What are the gods names that are on those days.

Oak Tree Worship features worship leaders Tony Willis, Abbie Jones and Carolyn Hope. Building on the achievements of Rivers of Grace (2002), Oak Tree Worship are setting out to offer a heavier rock alternative to much of the mainstream worship offerings that are around at the moment.
Involved in leading worship at New Wine’s 2004 Summer Conference, Tony Willis, Abbie Jones and Carolyn Hope are regular worship leaders at Oak Tree Anglican Fellowship in West London, and are using these songs regularly for congregational worship.

In Worship of Trees

In Mystery Mark of the New Age, Texe Marrs claims that “The satanic circle is well-known among witches and Satan-worshippers. This symbol also has ancient significance. It represented the Sun Gods and Goddesses of Egypt and Rome. Circe (thus Circle) was the pagan Roman Sun Goddess, and her symbol was the circle…The point within the circle is the sign of Lucifer.”[47]
Circe was not a “Roman Sun Goddess”. Circe, whose name means “she falcon”, was a character in Homer’s epic work, The Odyssey. Circe was the Greek Goddess of the island of Aeaea (“wailing”). Circe was an enchantress who turned Odyssey’s men into swine, lions and wolves. The symbol of Circe was not a circle, it was the willow tree. The English word “circle” was not derived from Circe’s name, it was derived from the Latin word “circulus”, which was in turn derived from the Greek “kirkos” (“a ring”). A dot within a circle is an astrological sign for the sun and an elemental sign representing the element of air, not a sign of Lucifer.

Jack Chick buys popular comic strips
Code:
ONTARIO, Calif. — Jack Chick, author of Christian tracts, made a surprise purchase of some of the world's best-loved comic strips and is spreading the gospel in typical Chick fashion through the Sunday funnies.
Garfield, Ziggy, Blondie and a dozen other strips now belong to the Chick Publishing empire and are filled with hooded apparitions, angels and other menacing fare. Chick's strategy apparently is to combine classic Chick elements with strips' longstanding formulas.
Darla Clark, a newspaper reader from Baton Rouge, says she was surprised to read Sunday's "Blondie" strip in which Dagwood stands before the Throne of God giving account for his laziness and gluttony. It's the first in a series called "Dagwood, This Was Your Life!"
"I found it disturbing and disheartening," she says. "I thought maybe the cartoonist was having a personal crisis."
Syndicates, bracing for negative reaction, are trying to make the best of it.
"The comics still feature classic characters and are a great entertainment value," said a King Features spokesman, noting that readers of Zippy the Pinhead will especially appreciate the new Chick sensibility.
Chick paid $40-50 million for each comic strip's rights.
"Forty million is a lot of money," said Marvin creator Tom Armstrong when asked why he sold the rights to his popular strip. "Chick can carry on the Marvin legacy however he wants. I get early retirement." •

You know, given how many pagans there were, and how many gods they had, statistically speaking, how are we going to AVOID putting our feasts and hollidays on their holy days? Not to mention, if a given animal, tree, plant, etc is common to an area, its likely to have been associated with a given god or goddess, and likely found some kind of practical use in that society, so how would we ever avoid using pagan symbols either?

I guess this is just a matter of statistical inevitability . . .

I know, I responded too seriously while we were blowing off steam about Chick-type ravings, but I was so disheartened over Christmas when the only things about Christmas that I saw were shows telling me how my upcoming holliday was derived from pagans and how we Christans are just unimaginative folk that pilfered everything from the various pagans we ran into.

Christianity didn’t start human culture over from scratch. It built on what was already available. I have no idea why this bothers some people. I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of our current society that we would have to do away with in order to have no pagan influences.

What about us poor Aussies Down Under that don’t have oak trees? Were forced to worship eucalyptus trees!

Wait a minute……”Down Under”……that means were closer to Hell, oh no! Australian Catholics must be Satanists!

Australia is not mentioned in the Bible - not once. Therefore, Australia does not exist.

In celebrating the feast of Timothy and Titus today and discussing yes the infamous SAINT PAUL again cause you know they were friends. I am wondering if there is another day you will post about the cherry tree worshippers?:o But it doesn’t really matter cause I just indoctrinated over 100 students today and another 100 yesterday.🙂

what should I do if I find out my birthday falls on a pagan holiday? can I legally change it? also, my birthday actually falls on Arbor Day which means I am associated with all trees, so it seems I am doomed. I gotta get a new birthday

Hahaha, I must have completely missed a paragraph before. I read it and thought you were actually posting something from Chick publications. I then noticed the names of the books. It is pretty good.

We don’t pray to the oak trees as if they were God, we just ask them to pray to God for us! This is a point of doctrine those protestants misunderstand to their own detriment!

It means that you’re doomed. Sorry. If it’s any consolation, oak trees turn a pretty shade of red around that time of year.

This is starting to look like a hit-and-run data-dump. Perhaps a different socratic method found in Plato’s missing Trollika. 😃
