I seem to remember seeing an old painting that had the Virgin Mary in it and she was clubbing the devil with a stick or something like that. There are actually different versions of this scene. I can’t seem to find one on a Google-Image search. Anyone know the picture I’m talking about?

I believe I’ve seen that, but I can’t remember where. It may have been someone’s avatar on Fisheaters.
I think the title is something along the lines of “Our Lady, Destroyer of Heresies”?

I’m pretty sure it’s someone’s avatar here. And I think I had a conversation with someone about it. There’s like a festival in some country that celebrates the scene.

That is such an interesting concept. What I really love is the “trix” added to many titles of Mary. Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix…though by far Exterminatrix is the best 😃

What a great movie title that would make.

I think this is the image I had in my mind now that I was able to do a decent keyword search! (thanks At Trent!)

Facinating, I have never seen that. Our Lady of Succor. That will be forever burned in my mind now:shrug:

I like the title ‘Exterminatrix’, too! 😃

What a cool picture-if you can call a picture of Our Lady driving off the devil with a stick ‘cool’. 😉

She is sometimes called a ‘Warrior Queen’, probably because she is from the family of King David, who was a warrior himself.

I know I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that spankin’. 😉

Oh, “cool” is definitely the word 😃

Kind of a surprising picture…not what you’d first expect…but very interesting. A metaphor for everything Our Lady does to combat the devil! Aren’t we lucky to have a Queen of Heaven who beats up the devil with a stick??😃

definitely very cool picture, I’ve never seen it before

Musing Exterminatrix…like the Terminator…but so much more awesome. 😉

Padre Pio called the Rosary his “weapon”. Sort of reminds one of the same image.

LOL
Interesting picture and one that I haven’t seen before. But it reminds me of a dream (nightmare) that our daughter, now age 25, had when she was about six years old. She was so frightened and her fear scared both my husband and myself. It seemed like a nonsense dream but it was the fear that concerned us. She dreamed that Our 26" statue of Our Lady of Fatima came to life and was flying around the room chasing our black cat with a fly swatter.

-trix is the Latinate feminine equivalent of the suffix -tor. In law, for instance, you still see the distinction well preserved in in a few words like administrator/administratrix and executor/executrix, but in other contexts (aviator/aviatrix, proprietor/proprietrix, etc.) it’s fallen out of general use.

Well, that is really good info to know, thanks for the grammatical clarification on that one 🙂

Sounds like it could be related. We know Padre Pio was helped by Mary many times.
