Painting the Eucharist with Precious Blood

I moved and attended Mass at my new parish. After the priest broke the Host, he took a large piece, repeatedly dipped it in the chalice and painted the hosts in the ciboria. Is this common? Is there a name for it?
 
It seems similar to intinction, but he uses the host to spread wine on the other hosts, then the hosts are distributed normally by the priest and EMHC’s.
 
I don’t know. That seems kind of odd. That’s not like classic intinction.
 
For lack of a better term, kind of ‘basting’ the host in the Precious Blood?
 
Is it a regular Diocesan parish, or run by some other group?
 
Never heard of this before - indeed, even intinction is not common around here.

It’s odd, because when one receives the Host, one receives the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ - fully. There’s no real need to ‘go for a dip’.

It is one of the ways to do it, look in catholic encyclopedia, communion under two species. You will see it has a name in latin totally fair and that was the common practice in the early church
 
Intinction is only used by a priest and only on the tongue. The Eucharist was distributed by lay people and on the hand. I think this is something different.
 
I think you’ll find it’s always a bad idea to risk getting the Precious Blood on your fingers , particularly in a repetitious manner - so arranging a situation which risks both the priest and the extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion getting the Precious Blood on their fingers tends towards an abuse.

Neither is it, in whatever limited terms these people may be thinking, efficient, so to speak, because not all the consecrated Hosts would come in contact with the Precious Blood.

@Miguel25 Would it be possible to provide a link for the article from Catholic Encyclopedia ? . . . unless you are thinking of intinction which has already been mentioned and is not the same as what the OP posted

There is a name for it. It’s called a Liturgical Abuse.
 
I’ve never heard of or seen that before.

I think it’s a form of intinction? But the only way I see and know is the host being dipped into the chalice and the priest will say “The body, and blood of christ.” with the same response and the person is NOT allowed to hold it. The person must take communion on the tongue which is very beneficial for me
 
I was also thinking abuse, but maybe no???

From his biography on the parish website: He was first ordained a deacon in the Syriac Catholic Church and “(with an Indult of Accommodation granted by His Holiness Pope John Paul II, Deacon ST was permitted to adopt the Syriac Catholic Rite while remaining a Roman Catholic at the same time)”.
About 6 months later he was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest.

Does this explain things?
 
here in parishes you recibe the bread and u soak the bread in wine and u eat it
