Pajamas at Mass

I think it was just a humorous reminder to set your clocks back before going to bed on Saturday night, and if you forget, don’t use the lack of time to primp and look your best as an excuse to skip Mass! I’d be willing to bet a dozen Boston cream donuts that nobody shows up in pajamas, but there may be a sweatsuit or two.

Oh, and while you’re setting the clocks back, change the batteries in your smoke detectors, too. But don’t go lighting a fire in the kitchen to test how well they work!

Today there was an announcement made before mass. He said something like this:
We have decided that we are going to try something new that we have never done before, We ask you that when daylight savings time ends, please keep your pajamas on and where them at church…
Oh no. I didn’t think something like this would happen. How disgusting. Completely inappropriate. What does this accomplish? Nothing at all. I am not looking foward to this.

Are you really thinking this announcement was done in all seriousness?
Did you go and speak personally to anyone at your parish, the lector/cantor, the priest? That is the thing to do before coming to a public forum and tallking about appropriateness and disgust at the Mass.

I wouldn’t “cry and cry”…I would notice on the way in, but once I’m there I’ve got better things to do. I wait all week to get that time before the Blessed Sacrament and my goal is not to allow other people’s choices to affect that time in any way beyond a general prayer that God would open their hearts to increase their knowledge and respect.

I see them out in public, and I think they look sloppy-but I don’t lose my mind over it.

Yep, me too. And, not having been there to hear what was said personally, I go ahead and assume that it was a way of saying that if you forgot to change your clocks you are not exempt from Mass and come as you are. Of course, most people would know that it means to put on regular clothes (which takes all of five minutes).

I am not fond of pajamas worn in public unless you had to run to the store to get stuff for yourself or someone else that is ill & needs medicines/liquids. Otherwise, its pure laziness in my eyes. I’ve not seen anyone wear pajamas to Mass, then again lately I’ve been to Extraordinary Form Masses where most people tend to wear at least business casual clothes, some people may wear business professional clothes, and a few may wear a business casual type top with a decent pair of jeans.

Generally, people who attend Mass in the Ordinary Form dress appropriately, too. I’m sure it would be equally disturbing to see someone wear pajamas to a Mass in the Ordinary Form as it would be to a Mass in the Extraordinary Form. For the pastor to make such a statement is inappropriate, I believe, no matter what Form of the Mass it is.
I am not fond of pajamas worn in public either. I see it mostly when I go to the grocery store even around noon. The fad from the kids school days when they were allowed to wear PJs to school on “Pajama Day” carried over to it being
cool to wear pajamas in public anytime, or so they must think. IT’s not cool. I agree that it is just plain laziness not to get dressed to go out in public. It is a fad that needs to end. I also think that men should learn to remove their hats in the building., including cowboys!

I never thought I would resort to pull on pants and shirts. But I wore an outfit on Saturday, to Mass, that had no buttons, snaps or zippers.

My Lupus hands just couldn’t get the job done any other way.

May just have to do some shopping! There are some nice pull on clothes that are not over priced. As long as we are dressed modestly I am sure the Lord is pleased. Thanks…

I’m doing a little shopping for some presentable clothes for about the next month or so. I’m having back surgery, and will be in a brace for about a month. I won’t be able to get tailored clothes over that. I found a shop, online as well as in the local mall, called JJill. They have a couple of lines, one called Pure Jill, and one called Wearever, that are exactly the kind of pop-on, pull-up, or pull-over stuff that I’ll need to wear. I plan on coupling those clothes with either a pair of skimmers or a pair of Uggs, depending on the weather, for a casual but presentable studio sort of look. It should work for Mass as well. Also, remember, we’re going into the winter: Just leave your coat on!

I’m with you CB. I can also see my priest saying this and is a very orthodox priest.

Sorry, polishandproud, I can’t imagine any priest saying this and being serious. Of course he was joking.
