Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Jan. 5 (UPI) – Palestinian expatriates in Saudi Arabia will not be able to cast their vote in Sunday’s election to select a successor to Palestinian president Yasser Arafat.
The Palestinian ambassador in Riyadh, Mustafa Hashem, said Wednesday, “We tried to have the Palestinians in the kingdom participate in the poll, but the elections committee in the West Bank rejected our request on the ground that the monitoring will be poor.”
An estimated half a million Palestinians live and work in Saudi Arabia.
Hashem said the committee decided that voting would be limited to the residents of the West Bank and Gaza only.

For those who don’t know, Palestinians are also not welcome to apply for Saudi Arabian citizenship either.
