So I’m reading my former boss Michael Ledeen’s column today and I learn (via a link to Iraq the Model) that according to a captured Iraqi terrorist that George Habash’s PFLP (the only Palestinian group ever to successfully assassinate a member of the Israeli cabinet) has come out of the woodwork and is now actively involved in targeting US forces in Iraq. That’s a huge story given its Syrian connections, and it certainly isn’t the first of its kind to come out of broadcasts on Iraqi TV.

Which leads me to the question: Why isn’t this getting more play over here? Why aren’t any of these stories getting play over here?

here is a similar report from ABC News, this one citing the confessions of a purported Syrian intelligence officer which is actually even more damning than the PFLP if true.

I was under the impression that foreign terrorirst involvement in Iraq has always been suspected, espescially on Syria’s part. This just sounds like one more Syrian-backed militia doing its part to screw with peace. I’m not sure why you think it’s espescially newsworthy given that Americans have been targeted by terrorists in Iraq since the day we toppled Saddam.

Am I missing something important?

I think so: On the way into Bagdhad we captured large numbers of individuals all bearing foreign passports, foreign monies etc. from that day until present. The evidence and testimony was heavily pointed at Syria but no one could verify very well that the Syrian government was taking the part of a coy young miss “whose lips say no no but there is yes yes in her eyes” as the song goes; it is becoming more and more evident that the goods on the Syrian goverment itself is beginning to roll out of the woodwork over the past week or so which is making Mr. Basshad extremely nervous…a state of neurolgical disorder to paraphrase Bill Maher.

The Iraqis who want their freedom caught one the other day and kicked him to death and then strung him up - they are tired of these terrorists entering their country, setting off bombs and killng them and their children. The assassination in Lebanon is being looked at as sponsored through the back door by Basshad – and they are raising cain about it.

Mr. Basshad has to watch his step, his own Arab neighbors are backing away from him, the US is on the ground sitting on his border, and his own counrymen have had more than they want of him – he sees where Hussein and Bin Laden are living and I expect he would prefer not to emulate their present lifestyle.

Heavy is the brow that wears the crown.
