Lowest level in terms of outright numbers, or in percentage of women of child bearing age?
Considering the fact that the baby boom generation has passed that stage of their lives. This is a very legitimate and important question.
Lowest in outright numbers. You can parse the number any way you wish-abortions dropped under George Bush-and of course there were NO overseas abortions funded by the US when Bush was president-something President obama allowed his third day in office.
I am sure you can priovde us a link to the percentage of child bearing age?
If that was the best the GOP was willing to do when they had the prime opportunity, they’re a party of lies and empty promises. The only promises they keep is to enact fiscal policies that serve to create more social injustice.
Every single limitation on abortion since Roe was forced on the country has come via republican legislators or republican appointed judges. Every single limitation on abortion since roe was imposed on the country was fought vehemently by Democrat legislators and democrat appointed judges. It is interesting that only those claiming to be pro-life but wishing to support the Democrat party make these absurd claims about the ineffedtiveness of the republican party on abortion. Go to the NARL or NOW webstes and see what they have to say about how “ineffective” the republican Party is Heres some examples:
“Tonight, Americans saw the clear difference between Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain when it comes to the issue of a woman’s right to choose. Sen. Obama reiterated his long-standing commitment to women’s reproductive freedom and privacy. Sen. Obama also outlined how he will unite Americans behind commonsense, common-ground ways to improve women’s health-care options and prevent unintended pregnancy. McCain, on the other hand, restated his call for the overturn of Roe v. Wade. That’s no secret: McCain has voted against a woman’s right to choose for more than 25 years, and he has even voted against birth control, which is one of the best ways to reduce the need for abortion. McCain’s hypocrisy represents the divisive political attacks that Americans are tired of.”

"Palin clearly believes that she and other anti-choice politicians like John McCain should be able to make personal, private decisions for American women and their families. Palin claimed she supports contraception but then undercut her own statement by later refusing to stand up for women’s access to emergency contraception.

Over the last several years, access to abortion has been restricted or made more difficult by many new state laws. These include requiring expensive ultrasound tests; mandated waiting periods that increase the cost of the procedure; parental involvement requirements; and targeted regulation of abortion clinics that make operations costly and difficult. Other state efforts, such as those designed to establish fetal personhood, are intended to create a test case for the Supreme Court to use in overturning or further limiting
Roe.

After a bipartisan effort that led to the passage of the stem cell research bill in both the House and Senate, George W. Bush vetoed this legislation that would have eased restraints on federally funded embryonic stem cell research, utilizing donated human embryos that would otherwise be destroyed. This is the second time George Bush has used his veto power to override a measure that could have led to treatment of debilitating illnesses and life-threatening diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, heart disease, spinal cord injury, and diabetes.
