Colors in the Byzantine Church are feast/day specific not seasonal as in the Latin Church. The Feast of SS Peter and Paul fell on Sunday this year, so Metropolitan John wore the proper color for Sunday: Gold/White/Silver, which is only rarely overridden. Red is worn on the Third Sunday of Lent (some will use it every Sunday of Lent) and the Sunday coninciding/following the Feast of the Holy Cross, Green on Penetecost Sunday, Blue on a Sunday coninciding/following one of the Theotokos’ Feasts. Saints feasts do not override the Sunday Gold/White/Silver.
