Palm Crosses

Hello,

I know it is customary for Catholics after Mass on Palm Sunday to spend the day googling the best way to fold the Blessed Palms into Crosses šŸ˜ƒ Iā€™m just wondering how do yā€™all fold your Palm crosses and how do yā€™all display them around your houses &c.,

I just picked it up as I walked through into the Church šŸ˜ƒ They were already folded into crosses for us, saves a bit of time that I can use on my Bible reading plan.
 
We donā€™t fold our palms into crosses. We put them behind our holy pictures or crucifixes as received in church ā€“ straight, not in th form of a cross.
 
We got palm crosses at our Episcopal church today, made by the youth, in addition to the longer palms, so itā€™s not just a Catholic thing.
 
My Scottish friends learned how to make those at Catholic school in Scotland. I had never heard of them til she did it.
My mother used to burn palm during storms.

I burn them during severe storms too! We also make some into crosses or into, not sure what to call it, I guess a whip with many ā€œstrings,ā€ similar to the whip the Romans would use. The ones we leave straight or make into a whip are the ones I use to burn during severe storms. We live in tornado alleyā€“spring time is rolling here!

Thanks for the idea. I live in north Texas so, we get those spring storms. Iā€™ll make sure I burn them once the tornados start running through!

Mine tooā€¦folded by the kids in Catechism classes.
I didnā€™t know about the Catholic tradition of googling ideas for ideas for palms.

Love it šŸ™‚ Iā€™ll read the thread in case some day I have to fold my own.

I donā€™t follow any predefined patterns. I just start folding myself and let it form as it may. I donā€™t think I follow the same pattern year after year, so some years they look better than the last.

Hi Landon.

Hereā€™s the youtube link I used to make my crosses. The only thing I did different is I did not soak mine. If you donā€™t like this video, there are tons of them showing different ways.

I made my best one ever today! Itā€™s in my car right now, to protect me against freeway malefactors (or is it to protect them from my driving?šŸ¤·)
 
Iā€™ve always enjoyed making the palm crosses (back when I was Anglican we used to have a work party on the Saturday morning, some stayed for the full 3 hours or so, others just dropped in for whatever time they could spare). The church I go to now is so huge we just hand out the straight palms.

Caution, Landon, if the palms you use have dried out too much, they will not ā€˜weaveā€™ nicely and will possibly break. When we made them in the work party the branches were kept in water so that the fronds we used were still very green and supple. Here the branches were cut on Thursday, so by the time I got mine on Sunday evening it was too dry to bend (I tried).
