Palms

I’m curious as to what everyone does with their palms after mass? I knew of someone who used to make little crosses out of them and hang them up. What do you do with them?
 
I am not talented in that respect, so mine are stuck behind a cross I have at my computer desk.

I made mine into a cross and hung it with an icon of the Virgin and Child.
 
My 16 year old made them into crosses and we place the in our bedrooms…
 
We save ours in a vase for a year (just sticking straight out)… and then next year our local parishes collect the dried palms from last year and make the ASHES for Ash Wednesday from them!
Maybe ask your parish if they do the same thing?

I always have a problem of what to do with old ones, we really dont do that at parish. Guess I can burn or bury them…
 
I do not take mine home mainly because it will get lost by next year. I rather the ushers pick them up and have the parish hold them in a safe place.
 
I used to stick it behind my crucifix, by my icons, for a year and then cut it up and burn it with the incense.

The last few years I have made them into crosses and pinned them to the wall above the icons.
 
The kids make crosses out of them and give some away and keep some.I’m not that talented,so I just put the whole frond behind our picture of the Sacred Heart. Hopefully,we remember to take them in before Ash Wednesday the following year,but if not we just burn them.

To the pp who mentioned putting one in the car-GREAT idea! I never thought to do that,but will make sure I do this year.Thank you!
 
As a kid, I learned how to make them into somthing like a braid. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? :confused: I usually put those behind the crucifix or pictures.

Last year’s palms will be burnt and burried with the spring flowers.
 
My kids make theirs into crosses. I put the rest in a vase until they dry out and then I burn them.

I think I know what you’re talking about–it’s like a braided “box” (kind of 3-D)? I don’t know what it’s called but my kids can do it.I’ll ask them and see at least what it’s called. 😛

May be what my Dad makes out of them…he calls it a pyramid, and his do narrow at the top to make a 4-sided pyramid sort of thingie. His dad taught him how and said it symbolized the Exodus. Pretty cool!
 
I just followed the cross link texaspanda gave us and put my cross behind a standing crucifix in my apartment.
 
We used to put them over the doorways in our house. We’d often forget about them till next Palm Sunday, when we’d replace them and burn the old ones.

One year, they actually gave out palm crosses at Mass. I couldn’t figure out how they made them. Considering the number given out, it must have taken the makers days of non-stop folding.

I’m going to try to fold mine tomorrow. The usher gave me a handout with the instructions, and a few extra “for practice”.
