For the record, he (Pope John Paul II) never admitted his mother’s Church affiliation. Nobody knows for sure. She could be Ukrainian Orthodox or Polish Orthodox.

Never admitted, but never denied either.

BTW - the Polish Orthodox was established in 1924, so that’s unlikely.

No disrespect intended to anyone here or the memories of the blessed souls mentioned - just a lighthearted mention of the ā€œlegendā€ that comes to mind in thinking of remembering the faithful departed, especially among those generations for which this memorial was particularly treasured.
