That certainly is one way of approaching worship. But not the only way.

The Desert Fathers and Mothers, the early Christians, and the diverse traditions that are indeed part of traditions aren’t romantic in the slightest . 🤷

I agree. I fail to see in what way Pope Francis has acted with a lack of dignity unbecoming to his office.
And to God. And to the Liturgy. I think the approach needs to be “this is how it is, and this is right, and this is good”, not “can humbling the church below a due level of honor attract more people because they won’t believe false criticisms of hypocrisy?”

Hardly. Papal ceremonial is subject to the Pope. The Pope in general is not required to do everything that they have done in the past.
Its even more simplistic than Benedict’s already much-toned-down version was.

And yet the externals are not required. This must always be remembered. The essence does not require the externals.

I have noticed this at every Mass I have ever attended.

And this is the problem: You are so wrong. Romance is not empty gestures. Serenading the one you love, putting out flowers, holding the door, dressing nice are all gestures that are not at all required for true romance to be expressed. They are ultimately irrelevant to romance. Romance can equally be expressed through sitting at home in sweatpants.

This is why this mentality is so flawed: the risk of mixing up externals with actual substance is blurred inappropriately.
 
(Just a heads up to all of us. I noticed that Thomas Casey posted a sticky called “Pope Watch” where he listed what won’t be tolerated when discussing the Pope and what he does or does not do. It’s worthwhile to take a moment and make sure we are all aware of the rules.God Bless. )

You sound like someone who has some experience and maturity under their belt where love is concern. 😃
 
In addition to keeping his coat of arms during his time as Archbishop of Buenos Aires, his motto will also be kept.

The motto, “miserando atque eligendo,” was inspired by St. Bede the Venerable’s commentary on Matthew’s Gospel.

The particular passage that spoke to Pope Francis was Jesus seeing Matthew the tax collector, “looked at him with love and said 'Follow me.’”

The Latin motto stands for “having had mercy, he called him.”

They explained at his mass this morning that the three insignias represent the Holy Family: the IHS for Jesus, the star for Mary, and the grapes for Joseph - alhough I don’t understand how these latter two would symbolize Mary and Joseph.
