Similarly with the Church of the East, which does not have a dyophysite theology (rather the Christology is that the union is not of natures, nor of hypostases, but of prosopon – but in translations hypostases and prosopon have been translated person yet do not have the same meanings). The Church of the East does not recognize the council of Ephesus presided over by Cyril of Alexandria and neither was the Church of the East invited to it.Even Better, I’m Oriental Orthodox. We did not accept Chalcedon (This was largely due to what now we realize as a misunderstanding with semantics-- we interpreted what was being said as being too close to Nestorianism, and we were interpreted as being too close to Eutyces…
I discourage people from “quoting” the statements of what people, including popes, might, or might not, have said “informally”. You will find people “quoting” other informal statements, such as Martin Luther on his deathbed regretting starting the Reformation, or St John XXIII on his deathbed regretting calling Vatican II; I expect somewhere there are informal “quotes” by LBJ describing how the Department of Agriculture hitmen shot JFK.This is apparently exactly what JXXIII used to say informally to those who went on about his infallibility too much.
