I know veiling is common when in the presence of the pope at the Vatican. Is this also expected for the masses he will celebrate here in the US? I think a mass celebrated by the pope is a time to veil (if ever there was one!). 😃 Besides veiling, what is expected clothing wise?

Thanks!

The rules are the same as for any other Mass: modest dress. Women are not required to cover their heads, it is optional.

I I were attending Mass that the Pope was celebrating I would wear a veil. I do own a veil, because we plan on going to a Catholic Church North of us that has a Latin Rite Mass.

I attend both rites but usually only veil during the TLM or when Our Lord is exposed for adoration. I feel a papal mass warrants the veil. .

Wearing a veil in the presence of the Pope at the Vatican is more about a traditional protocol with the (now defunct) Papal States and Vatican City State.

Wearing a veil if you wish, but it should be about Our Lord. Not the Pope.

Veiling at Holy Mass is to show reverence and humility before Our Lord, not the Holy Father. If one was going to simply visit the Holy Father, then wearing a veil would be in respect to him and not directly to Our Lord.

The dress code is to be modest. It is also advised to be at least somewhat formal in honor of the great action you are participating in at Mass, although it isn’t necessary. Here is a dress code that the Vatican uses Papal Audience Dress Code.

I hear you but it just seems like it should be done. I mean it’s the POPE.
For that kind of formality, I’d skip the veil and go straight for a ā€œchurch hatā€ that matched my dress, handbag, and shoes.
