There’s a whole subforum specifically devoted to WYD, with a thread going on the Papal Mass as well. Check it out - should be enough comment there to keep you happy.

Hey I’m from “down under” New Zealand and the last 10 days has been broadcast over and over again. Only the good points were broadcast and it was all good.I think that you might find that if you didn’t see anything it would be because the ABC were not broadcasting it.

Godbless.

I watched most of the closing Mass last evening. It was beautiful.

When Pope John Paul was in Denver, I don’t remember the major networks covering it, other than in the news reports. EWTN is the only channel that covers WYD start to finish.

Yes Jim a friend of mine just told me that he watched the closing mass and that it was very beautiful. The message for all especially was very clear. I don’t know what the channel was although I suspect that it would have been EWTN.

Godbless

I’m in South Australia and have been too glued to the TV as a live feed was broadcast on our ethnic channel of every public appearance (from beginnng right through to end) of The Holy Father, plus an excellent, really excellent, 2hr (I think it was) documentary on his life last night from childhood right through to his election to the papacy with actual interviews (and quite a few) with then Cardinal Ratzinger. Being a technological dyslexic I have no idea how to record onto video what appears on the TV. There was a lot too on our TV about the various celebrations and accommodations, WYD happenings around Sydney during the week, along with interviews of various people. Hence I am now ‘square eyed’ from being glued to the TV so as to miss not a moment of WYD in Sydney.
The Holy Father did visit with some victims of priestly sexual abuse before he left, as well as a most moving(indeed!) public apology in St. Mary’s Cathedral. I was very surprised and happy that our media in South Australia did not focus much at all on those who were protesting something or other during the visit and these did not overshadow the visit in the media at all. Of course, the media did give them some publicity - but it all tended to me to be a bit lame, almost ‘spoil sports’ as we call it here (the protests)…but this may be due to my own personal bias towards The Holy Father and The Church …as much as I abhor and am deeply ashamed, angry, personally - taking it all quite personally - of the various scandals in our Church. These abuses have not only compromised the priests themselves and very seriously - criminals…they have brought the whole Church into public question. And the abused and their plight leaves me speechless!
I did post into “The Pope Leaves” thread in the forum for WYD:
forums.catholic-questions.org/forumdisplay.php?f=131

…summarizing what affected me most about The Holy Father’s visit, which was the actual person of Pope Benedict…his various addresses and homilies I can read and ponder over at leisure from the internet. It was a papal visit that has affected me like no other.

Blessings…Barb:)

I am not understanding your question. events of WYD including Masses are broadcast on EWTN. We have a subforum here for WYD with incidentally great updates from participants.

as to why US mainstream media publicized the Pope’s visit here, you would have to ask them, not us, but I assume because the visit of any world leader and the reaction of the US population is US news.

if you want to comment on US news coverage the place to do it is on either of the news forums, with a link

sorry and thank you for pointing me in the right direction. when the pope came to america threads for it were just all over the place. that is where i was looking for wyd threads. I did not know you had made a special folder for them. thanks for the help.

Dear “down under” Maybe we Americans, are just more… er… “mouthy” than Aussies? 😉 (kidding!!! 😃 )

I was also glued to the WYD coverage, on EWTN. I loved every moment of it! The Stations of the Cross, was especially well done. I cried buckets.

I pray that all of my brothers and sisters in the “Great Southland of the Holy Spirit” received multitudes of blessings, as we in the U.S. did, by the presence of our Holy Father. God bless.
