He wanted to promote mutual respect. Perhaps he is ultimately hoping that muslims will learn to respect catholicism and freely allow Catholic missionaries into muslim countries. And that muslims will no longer threaten or disown muslims who dared to openly convert to catholicism.

its a good dream.

I highly doubt that will happen, no matter what the Pope says.
 
Perhaps his message should have been a simple:
Code: 
            "Please stop killing us"
It wasn’t a bad statement by the Pope though…well done.

Hi exoflare,

I’m sure he understands Islam better than you (and me). And I’m sure he knows Matthew 5:9 - “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called God’s children.”

Just like JPII was a great leader in the time of communism, I’m sure (well, I hope) BXVI will be a great leader in the time of terrorism. (Lord knows that Bush and the coalition are failing.)

Whether it hit Mohammedan radar – which I hope it does – is not what caused me to start the thread.

The above passage and others draws distinctions. That’s a big deal.

Agreed, but this doesn’t explain much.
 
Just a little nitpick, but that statement was from Cardinal Tauran, not the Holy Father. 🙂

As the statement says,” As religious believers, it’s up to us all to be educators of peace, of human rights, of a freedom which respects each person, but also to ensure increasingly strong social bonds, because man must take care of his human brothers and sisters without discrimination. I understand where you’re coming from! Muslims never initiate any negotiations for dialogue as seen here:

You have nothing to teach us and we have nothing to learn.” **A dialogue between deaf persons? But I believe that by now this is recognized and admitted by all.
