My son was like you after he graduated he moved out. First with a buddy, I told him to move out is fine, i understand i do remember what it is to be young. I told him to work for a year save up and then hit the road no hard feelings. Well he didnt listen moved in with a friend, his life was hell, no money to do anything,. THen he met this Girl, lets say pulled things at that house he wouldnt have here. Well its been 1.5 years. He left his friends, he broke up with the girl she charged up all his credit cards, and now hes in a jam. Well guess whos back home, and you know what im the one not too happy this time. When he left he broke my heart i knew he wasnt ready, well i couldnt stop him. i had to mind my own business, thats what everyone told me. Well guess what little smart… told me the other day, Oh Mom I should have listened to you. well its too late, now his butt will sit home and get out of debt, but not mine, not this time, im going to be going out with my husband and living my life. and (MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS) i like just minding my own business, it makes my life so much easier.

This is sooooo simple. Get a job. Move out. Pay your own rent, buy your own gas, do your own laundry, cook your own food and have only yourself to answer to. Visit your parents now and then, invite them over to your place from time to time. Don’t ask them for advice if you don’t want their opionion. Be cheerful–don’t complain. Don’t reveal private or personal information or introduce them to your friends/dates unless you want their (name removed by moderator)ut. Thank them when they do something for you. Help them out even before they ask.

See, I told you it was S I M P L E.
I have been trying to get a job for a year. I have a good education and a good degree. But the door gets shut in my face. It’s like I’m overqualified for jobs that don’t necessitate a whole lot of experience, and underqualified for jobs that require a business degree. I have sincerely tried to get a job but my state of Michigan is terrible economically and I don’t have enough money to travel to other states for interviews, etc. I fear that the next job I get will be some dinky temp job that won’t help me stay afloat, and then another gap of time before I get another job, etc. I simply have the misfortune of not being able to either hold a job or get a job (I have some experience though but employers are seemingly viewing it as dung). It would be simple though if I were to get a job easily and keep one.

Frankly I don’t really disagree with you on anything. I just don’t know why it isn’t happening for me.

I’m almost 19 as well (13 days!!), am still in school, and starting to become more financially independent. I’m living in my parents’ house part time (and this will probably be the last summer of my life that I do so).

Here’s how it goes:
My parents take care of my schooling, but I take care of books and things I want to do (like travel, etc.) I also hope to start paying my own rent soon, and for my own groceries. In return, I also have to keep my grades good and while I can make my own decisions, I can’t do anything harmful to myself or others, obviously (no drunken orgies, that whole bit). And to honor them, I’m staying in school and finishing my degree. It’s also for me, because I value my education and the opportunities it gives me.

Over the summer: As a legal adult, I’m allowed to do what I want within reason. I need permission if I’m having people over the house, but if I’m going out, I’m allowed as long as I let them know where I’m going (and I have a way to get there). My parents tell me that I have to make my own adult decisions now, but of course, some decisions I’m not allowed to execute in their house (and I wouldn’t want to). In return, I live a pure and clean life, for God and for me, but also for them so they don’t have to worry about me making stupid decisions with drugs, alcohol, or sex.

I don’t know if this answers your question, but this is what goes on in our family.
