Parenting guru John Rosemond's anti-Catholicism

Some of you may be familiar with the writer and “parenting expert” John Rosemond (who resides in Gastonia, NC). His column appears regularly in the Charlotte Observer. In today’s Observer, we see he has changed hats and has written a letter to the editor, opining on Bishop Peter Jugis’ instruction that only men are to have their feet washed on Holy Thursday in the parishes of the Diocese of Charlotte.

I guess given Mr. Rosemond’s supposed expertise in the field of parenting, he assumes he has a similar expertise when it comes to Catholicism, and feels free to use the opportunity of Bishop Jugis’ instruction to go on a silly rant against the Church. In actuality, his letter displays quite an ignorance of the Catholic Church. One can only hope that he would use as much energy as he used to compose his letter to learn accurately from such sources as the Catechism of the Catholic Church what the Church, in fact, teaches about such things as Christ being the sole Mediator (He is), and the other areas in which he displayed more heat than light. Here’s an idea, Mr. Rosemond: Bishop Jugis is presently serving as interim pastor of St. Michael’s Church in Gastonia; just go knock on his door.
 
Uh! I’m sorry I ever gave money to that man to attend his seminar. I’m going to throw away one of his books that I have. Thanks for taking the time to respond to his letter to the editor.
 
I sent him an e-mail through his website regarding his letter to the editor.
 
There really does seem to be one born every minute, doesn’t there?

You know, regarding his crack about who is the head of the Church, I’ll bet if you asked about the word of God, a lot of Protestants would say “The Bible” rather than “The Second Person of the Trinity, the Son of God”. That doesn’t mean they don’t know that Jesus is the Word of God, but only that they answered without fully considering the question. That is hardly an error (even that is far too strong a word, for in a very real sense the answer is perfectly correct) that I would use to club Protestants over the head with. But this guy thinks the perfectly correct answer, in a very real sense, that the Catholic gave about the head of the Church is some kind of devastating indictment. :rolleyes:
 
I took a class on parenting about 15 years ago that John Rosemond gave. He is great-a very loving and educated psychologist. I don’t think he understands the Catholic perspective-maybe his search will lead him to the Truth! 😃

My chidren are long-grown, but when I’ve read his column I found his no-nonsense approach to parenting refreshing. His diatribe was quite a shock.

I respected his no-nonsense parenting too. His anti-Catholic views are shocking and, like I said, I sent him an e-mail through his website to let him know that.

His comment on the “Communion rail” is the best example of his ignorance of the Church! If only…

Many non-Catholics in America simply imbibe anti-Catholicism along with their mother’s milk. It is further reinforced by the anti-Catholic mythologies present in the culture, the schools, and society. Perhaps this is just how he grew up.
