I think she was raised badly. It’s almost abusive. Her development is so arrested that she seems unable to deal with problems that the rest of us would just find a way to handle. She doesn’t seem to have a conscience at all, or if she does, it’s so poorly formed that she’s really no better than a small toddler who has no idea that what they are doing is horribly unsocial.
In a way, I feel like the mom (and is there a dad?) should go to jail with her to make up for their bad parenting.
I’ll bet she’s never eaten mashed potatoes and canned corn and fruit cocktail in heavy syrup in her whole life, so it’s no wonder that she got sick on the jail food.
And I sympathize with her.
If I am nervous or upset, my stomach is the first part of me to do flip flops. Ever since my surgery (March 19), on the day of my doctor appointments, I get an upset stomach, feel faint, and barf. I try not to, but it must be psychological. It’s so weird to not be able to control it! The people at the office recognize me by now. (“There she comes, the fainter!”)
I also get an upset stomach before I play piano if there is something not right; e.g., I feel that the singer/choir is not prepared, etc.
So I can sympathize with Paris here. I know a lot of people say, “Too bad, sweetie, just eat what the po folk eat, you’re not above it.”
But I disagree with this. It’s really, really tough to not be able to eat because certain foods just don’t set well and you barf it up. It only takes a day or two of this to totally wring you out.
My feeling is, send her back to jail, but allow her cooks to prepare whatever she normally eats and drive it over to the jail, then clean up (take the dishes home, etc.) Surely this wouldn’t cause the jail staff any extra trouble or make work for them.
If we were incarcerating a vegetarian or a senior citizen or a person from a country outside the U.S., we would try to make some reasonable accomodation for their diet. I think it is reasonable that Paris should be provided with food that she can tolerate without barfing. It doesn’t have to be the best gourmet stuff, just a few basics of whatever she normally eats.
I just think that’s basic decent treatment of prisoners–providing food.
