Parish offers Reiki healing instead of Anointing of the sick

What a shame.
From what they say here it seems that they have more faith in Reiki than in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the sick. What do ye think??

I have emailed the Pastor asking why there is such a focus on it and not on the Sacrament of Anointing. i am awaiting a response.
 
I looked at the bulletin and it seemed to be benign in nature.

However, I yahoo’ed the web and it seems the technique may be associated with the occult. As of right now, I am putting it in the category with the enneagram. Most likely dangerous and must not be taught,

there is an excellent website which has links to the vatican offical web site, to do with reiki etc. If the link doesn’t work, then type in “Reiki and the catholic faith” in google search and then click on the first web page which is CUF.org, this makes it quite clear what the problems are of these things. here is the link if it works:

Wow, that’s an ugly “website.” And Angelfire? For a parish? Dedicated webspace hosting is NOT that expensive.
 
I would approach the pastor about this occultic activity and if he does not respond, I would write to the Bishop for sure. Using Reiki for healing can open one to evil spirits and this has been documented. She was heavily involved in many New Age stuff…Reiki heavily and needed to be exorvised. Although there is much on the net about the dangers of Reiki from a Catholic-Christian standpoint.

No. Reiki is a form of positive energy, of healing. Certainly no demons about…:confused:

However, the Church hates everything New Age, so I’m surprised that someone hasn’t shut the church down yet.
 
Sacrament vs. non-sacrament. Easy choice. Offer the sacrament at any opportunity. DO not replace the sacred with the mundain.

OP, do they not offer the Anointing of the Sick? Clarify please.🙂

Modern medicine is not a sacrament, and I’d choose that over something like communion because it’s saved much more people’s lives.

And it is not the Church’s primary duty to provide medical care, though it does in many places. The Church’s main role is spiritual care. To that end, there is my post.

As good as modern medicine is, it only saves mere physical life; the Holy Sacraments save spiritual life. Got to go with the Sacraments! 👍

I work as a nurse in an ICU, and I have seen many people live and die - phsyically. Modern medicine only saves people’s physical lives/bodies, it doesn’t save their souls. Delving into Reiki is placing your spirit into the hands of the unknown. Reiki is about positive energy? Where is that “positive energy” coming from? If you study the origins of Reiki then you have an idea where this supposed “positive energy” comes from. Reiki was developed by a Bhuddist in 1922, and it’s Pantheistic beliefs pervade much of New Agism. It is dangerous in the eyes of Christianity because pantheism believes that there are many Gods, and that God(s) is abstract and is in everything. Bottom line, from the Christian perspective, the New Age and Occult lead its believers that they can obtain power and be their own masters, independent from and in denial of the Creator. Sounds very similar to the Garden of Eden. Same deciever just in a new age (no pun intended) playing the same game of relativism.

You know something’s wrong with a religion when it starts selling out to others to ‘get with the trend’. This is very sad. What is the purpose of this? I tried to access the site but I couldn’t as there was an error. Some of the activity that goes on in the Church is worrisome - little wonder some leave and many others are afraid to trust those who should guide and protect them
 
I’m deeply into yoga, I meditate, I consult a moon sign book before making certain choices (like when to cut my hair, or go on a diet, or schedule a surgery), I’ve had my palm read, played with tarot cards, seen a ghost, participated in a seance, used acupuncture, accupressure, homeopathy, magnets, believe in chakras, and so on and so on - and I won’t touch Reiki with a ten foot pole. Not because I don’t believe in it, but because I do. It seems ridiculously dangerous to have someone messing with the flow of your body’s energy.

Positive energy? Most people who practice “certified” Reiki have taken a 4 hour course at the local community college. I don’t trust them not to make something worse. And I think in most cases, it’s a bunch of hooey. When it’s not, I think there’s more of a chance for harm to be done than good. I actually had a fight with a massage therapist (first and last time going to this woman) when she offered, I declined, she insisted, I said absolutely no, and then she attempted it anyway.

Now, I do believe some people have an innate healing touch…my autistic brother is like this. If you are hurt, or terribly sick, he’ll just touch you, softly, on the hand, or the head, and the pain and fear will melt away. It’s remarkable.

Reiki and Catholicism are incompatible. Stay away from Reiki.

I was trained and initiated in Reiki I and II. I almost immediately went into a spiritual crisis. I had to choose. I chose my Catholic faith in Jesus Christ and His Church. God has forgiven me and made me stronger. I can honestly say I almost lost my soul.

God bless you Cathryn!!! May the Lord continue to smile upon you! I know one woman (whom I believe has an evil spirit) who still receives Reikie treatment even over the phone. She swears by it and she is Catholic. Our priest told her about it being wrong (gave her the book on Moira Noonan)…and she still does not listen. She has these eyes of hers every so often. The evil is very well present.

We need more witnesses like you to proclaim the truth to the many who question the occultism of Reiki.🙂
