Parish Rejecting Church Doctrine

Pax Christi:

I found a parish on the internet that seems very worrying. It has a pride flag on the homepage and has website links and information posted on the website supporting the ordination of women priests, and various resources that seek to change Church teaching on homosexuality.

It also has a picture of parish members including the parish priest holding a pride flag marching in the pride parade. The parish priest is also openly homosexual. It claims to be ‘in the spirit of Vatican II’. Are parishes allowed to act like this, I thought they only could promote official Church teaching.

I am quite worried, surely what this parish promotes is against Church teaching? I am quite sure that if I went to confession at this parish the priest would tell me to forget all about purity and chastity, and not worry about sinning. I am disturbed that a parish is allowed to promote this.

God Bless.
If it’s the church I’m thinking of - it’s definitely a very liberal Catholic church but as far as I can tell they’re not heretical. Could be wrong though. Also seems like this pastor is representing himself in the parade and not the Church officially. He says he is gay but celibate as per his vows- and as we know that is not sinful.

Tis_Bearself, thank you. I did not know about that rule and I am very sorry for naming the parish. I have rescinded all of my posts talking about that parish specifically.

I agree it is not my business, I just felt concerned that this was happening and it will not happen again.

Please delete all references to the parish, other posters.

God Bless!

Then discuss the “public scandal” without naming the church, unless LifeSite or another news media has already written an article about it.

It looks like all of you are hunting the Internet for a parish that might be causing a public scandal so you can bash it. This is likely why CAF used to have the rule about not identifying particular priests, pastors, parishes etc unless like I said it was already news.

It’s one thing to start a general thread about “How do we handle it when we see a website for a church and it has unorthodox stuff on it.” It’s another thing to actually go hunting for the parish and then make remarks about the parish, its bishop, etc and all this is coming from some guy a couple of continents away.

We’re a universal church, right? The parish itself is putting this stuff out there for all the world to see. If they can’t take the heat…

One can probably find a lot of scandalous situations on the Internet without even trying.

Thank you, Tis_Bearself. God bless you for doing your best for the forum.

Perhaps I will ask the moderator to lock the thread. Does anyone know how to do that?

I have no business criticising a parish in the United States, I apologise.

Thank you for your concern, Tis_Bearself.

God Bless.

catholic03, thank you. If the moderator decides for whatever reason it is okay to name the parish they will let you know, but the rule used to be that we did not identify. Probably to avoid the sort of viral internet “piling on” that occurs sometimes.

Like I said, a general “how do we handle it” discussion, without naming a parish unless it is already the subject of a news story, would be okay.

I personally tend to agree with what graciew already told you. For all we know, the bishop may already be telling this parish’s pastor, “Change your website or else” and the pastor may be arguing with the bishop and threatening to lead everybody into schism. The bishop would naturally want to avoid that. In my home diocese, a parish and its pastor disagreed with the Bishop over a church closure (had nothing to do with gays or women priests) and the pastor took all of his several hundred parishioners and opened his own church in a warehouse down the street and got excommunicated and none of them have returned. This is the sort of thing bishops try to avoid.

I was going to write something but this thread is bound to be closed in a matter of time

Yeah, I’d post a reply, but it’s going to close right…now! Riiiiight…now! Riiiiiiiiiight…now!

😁😁

Maybe a worthwhile question is how should Catholics handle it when they see parishes flagrantly disobeying Church teaching? What can a regular guy do? Is he supposed to do nothing? Usually Catholics are allowed to speak out if their conscience nudges them to. Y

Thank you for your posts everybody.

If you have named the parish or otherwise been uncharitable (I too have done this!) then please remove you post(s). I realise this thread was not appropriate.

I have asked the moderator to lock the thread.

Please refrain from posting.

God bless.

What? A sedevecantist church that is a stronghold of pro-LGBTQQ? You have one in Louisiana?
