When traveling how do I know if any given Parish is in Schism? I was recently traveling and attended Mass during which some very questionable practices took place. Is there a list, a web site or do I have to contact each Diocese I travel through. Pax

If they are under the authority of a bishop who is in communion with the Bishop of Rome, they are NOT in schism. (Most Eastern Catholic Churches in this country are not under the Latin ordinary.)

They may or may not have sound liturgical praxis, but that’s not the same thing as schism.

One way is to look at the sign in front of the church. If it says,
“Roman Catholic Church,” its usually OK.

There are now some religions that have titles like, “Liberal or Progressive Catholic,” or " “Reformed Catholic Church.” These are not legit.

Also beware that hotels and local newspapers, will still list these as Catholic, but of course, they’re not.

We use to have a link in this forum, which listed legit Roman Catholic Parishes across the US, along with their Mass schedules.

If some one has it, please provide it.

You could either check:
  1. masstimes.org - It lists Mass time for parishes in the US as well as internationally. Since it’s done in association with the USCCB, I think it’s safe to assume it lists only Catholic churches.
  2. Check with web site for the diocese you’re visiting. The USCCB has a list of dioceses along with links to their web sites. Dioceses usually have lists of the parishes within the diocese.
