Parishioners are “furious” with Bishop Joseph Punt of Haarlem-Amsterdam for suspending their parish priest, Father Paul Vlaar, according to a Radio Ne…

Full article…

Father Vlaar wore orange vestments-- the color of the Netherlands’ World Cup team-- during Sunday Mass on July 11. Father Vlaar also acted as a goalkeeper during Mass, standing in front of a goal as a parishioner kicked a soccer ball down the aisle.
If I was a traveler and walk into that church for that liturgy I would wonder if I was in a Catholic church.

I’m glad he’s suspended… suspended means that they are putting a temporary stop to some actions/people doing certain actions.

The Mass is not a game, and all this priest did was make a farce of the Sacrifice of the Mass. I’ll back the Bishop on this one 👍

As far as what the parishioner said… maybe they should learn what is being done before spewing at the mouth. Maybe they should learn what is going on in the Church rather than what’s going on in the soccer/football field/their “mass”.

From another article somewhere else in this forum IIRC, they say there’s widespread support for the suspension throughout the diocese… maybe the sentiments of this particular parish are a misguided affection for Fr. Vlaar, similar to many situations when a bishop transfers a priest of long tenure…
