One of my sister’s best friends has asked her to be the Matron of Honor at her wedding.

So far, so good – except that her friend’s church is sedevacantist. Is it still OK for my sister to participate?

The problem here, as you probably realize, is that in order to contract a valid marriage, a Catholic must be married in the Church by a priest who has the faculties to perform the ceremony. A sedevacantist priest would not have such faculties, as they are granted by bishop of the diocese, and sedevacantist priests don’t operate under the diocesan bishops. Therefore, a marriage attempted under such circumstances would be presumed invalid.

So the question is – can someone participate in an invalid wedding ceremony? The opinion of one of the Catholic Answers apologists can be found here: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=167154
However, this is still just an opinion, and I don’t know of an official document of the Church that provides a clear answer.
