The recruitment of volunteers for the phase 3 clinical trial is the only obstacle for the successful completion of the clinical tests. As I understand, then the firms and the medical agencies have established the certain requirements on the participating number which should be achieved before announcing that enough data and enough certainty has been achieved before to make the final evaluation of the vaccine and declaration it to be safe.
Both biggest programs (US and UK) for phase 3 vaccine trials are still open for recruitment, there are almost 20.000 volunteers but more volunteers are required.
So - what is your discernment? Is this the single moment of your life in which you can risk your life for your neighbour? Besides - the profit/price ratio (if we can say so) is very high - completed vaccine vs quite safe, monitored and unpainfull vaccine shot.
What prohibits you from the enrolling in vaccine trials?
As for me personally - I offered myself for clinical trials already in the end of March in my country. They rejected me, because there was no active clinical trial in my country. And there is still no single clinical trial in my country. But I would certainly take the shot (or more) if there was ongoing Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial in my country. Actually - it is with lot of self-interest - I am passing lot of activities, concerts, exhibition that I would have gone if I had had the vaccine.
16th March of 2020 was the first date when the first injection of the new Covid-19 vaccine was made to the man. It took 2 months (January-March) to prepare the vaccine from deciphering the genome of SARS-CoV2 virus to the preparation of the vaccine and first non-human tests. Just 2 months, because the firm used the established framework for generating the vaccine from the virus genome. Now - almost 6 months are gone, the vaccine is the same, only the dosage is being tuned and the completion of phase 3 clinical tests are all that is required before the vaccine to go the masses.“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
