If the protestant woman im dating was in a relationship with a catholic who was divorced but marriage not annulled , would that mean we will not be allowed to get married?

The question relates to the next point , that is , they had a sexual relationship , which means she committed adultery ? Because her ex boyfriend is mystically one with his ex wife. Would that mean that even if this woman and i got married , i would be committing adultery because she is already one with her ex?

If by “in a relationship” you mean something other than legally married to each other— such as dated, lived with, had sex with— then there is no impediment to marrying you.

If by “in a relationship” you mean “legally married”, then she would first need to be declared free to marry. Her marital situation and the prior marriage(s) of her spouse would need to be examined.

Yes, that or fornication depending on the actual circumstances.

Huh?

Thanks for clearing up .
Someone in the bible mentioned that sexual union makes both parties one? So its not just a physical act but something metaphysical (?) happens . So im curious to know if i should break up with her because she is already bound to him even if they were not legally married.

Would it be inconsiderate to talk to the priest about our situation without my date’s knowledge?

No, I think it would be better if you got your misconceptions cleared up and your concerns aired before you bring any of them to her. You do not want to upset her over nothing and you don’t want to give her the wrong idea about what the Church teaches concerning marriage.

That is not to say that her past in “nothing,” but rather that it is certainly something you could discern is behind her. From what you describe, she is free to marry as far as the Church is concerned.

Not only should you call the parish office and schedule time to speak with your priest you also can read the CAtechism on marriage.

No, her past unmarried relationships have absolutely no effect on whether you can marry her. The only thing that could affect you being able to marry her is if one or both of you have been married before to someone who is still living. It is about being MARRIED before, not about just having sex with somebody before, or cohabitating with somebody before, etc.

She’s not “one” with a guy who she didn’t marry. You don’t become “one” with somebody by having sex with them. You need to get validly married to them.

Please speak to your priest as you seem to be relying on some personal interpretation of the Bible that does not agree with Church teaching, and having some very strange ideas as a result.
