God has given me so many different passions. I love foreign languages like French and italian and spanish. I love literature as well as writng creatively. I also want to help people but i don’t know if I want to get paid for that like you know being a social worker. i’m only 16 so I have time but I wanted to know how God’s will might come in with my passion for foreign languages.

thank you and God Bless

You are at the perfect age to begin trying out different jobs to see what you can really picture yourself doing when you get older… you should , if you have time, intern with any company that does the stuff you want to do - just volunteer there a couple times to get the gist of it. More importantly, as everyone says here, pray to God and ask him that you be open to whatever it is he wants you to do - my mom always says that he puts these desires in us so we use them ! You can trust that God’s plan for you will make you happy - there are also prayers online that are prayers in discerning the job/vocation for you… I think just google it, good luck!

In conventual life nowadays (active religious orders) usually leadership of the Order will look at your gifts, needs etc. etc. and make decisions as to the type of work you would be best suited for in the Order. Also, on making enquiries from a particular religious order you can state what your gifts are the type of work you would like to do and then ask if it would be possible for you to use those gifts and do the type of work you would like to do.

There is no reason why you cannot begin now making enqiries of various religious orders and asking your questions and perhaps find one you could enter at a later date, if this is God’s Will for your life. You are still young, but there is no reason why you cannot ask these questions now and perhaps then stay in contact with the Order you plan to enter later, all being well.

God’s Blessings and His Peace…Barb:)

There is nothing “wrong” in being paid to help others, especially in a professional capacity such as in social work, nursing, teaching, etc., but if you would rather serve without being paid, an active religious order would be delighted to have someone with your interests and abilities. You can always do a “regular” job to pay for your living expenses and then volunteer in some sort of helping capacity in your free time. Perhaps you could volunteer to teach English as a second language to immigrants? Pray about it and ask God to guide you. He has given you these gifts and interests for a reason, and He will lead you to where He wants you to use them. Good luck and God bless!

Hello again CGirl4Ever…You could contact the vocations director in your diocese and explain the talents and skills you have and would like to utilize in religious life if you did decide to enter. She would, I am sure, tell you what religious orders may be interested in these talents and skills in their particular ministry and you could contact them and ask your questions.
What I meant was, you would not need to have decided that you definitely want to enter a particular Order or even religious life at all to contact them and ask questions.

I hope this has answered your question. If not if you tell me what exactly in my post you do not understand, I will try again to clarify.:o

There is certainly a place for linguists in the Church!

For example, Fr. Almir De Andrade, one of the Directors of the FSSP, speaks six languages fluently, and uses them all quite often, from what I hear.

Also, Pope Benedict is at least rudimentarily familiar with 10 languages. I’ve also heard that Pope Piux XII was a hyperpolyglot.

Which doesn’t mean that you can’t contribute.

Don’t tell me that Mother Angelica’s ministry wouldn’t be been helped by her speaking multiple languages.

Also, there are many women religious who live and work at the Vatican, some of whom I’m sure are interpreters.

Not all orders are cloistered, you know. Some are very much in the world, doing work for the Church in very visible ways.

Also, meme si tu es moniale (soeur contemplative), tu pourras aider par utilisent tes langages.
