I have a good friend who calls herself a Hebrew. She used to be part of a Messianic Jewish group but decided that the chosen people were the Hebrews who followed Christ, She is always studying the Old testament and follows the Levitical laws. We have had several scripture based discussions regarding Passover and the other feasts, which she celebrates. I always appreciate her questions and her perspective because it has pushed me to study church teachings ,early church fathers, and scripture. Her faith has strengthened my Catholic faith.
My posting here is to ask for members imput regarding those who call themselves Sabbath Keepers and celebrate the feasts.

Catholics don’t follow them on the authority of the Catholic Church. Other Christians don’t really have a good reason for not following most of them.

I can not follow this Christ suspended Levitical laws except the 10 commandments so how does she explain following Christ & Letiticus?

Don’t know. I’m assuming you mean laws that can still be followed today, which would exclude the laws regarding sacrifice? As to reform Jews, they tend to state that all ritual laws can be followed or not, as the individual desires.

Other Christians don’t really have a good reason for not following most of them.

Incorrect! Protestants do not follow the old law because Christ gave us a new covenant. He fulfilled the law.

Please forgive my ignorance, but how is that different than Messianic Jew? Were not all the first Christians Messianic Jews/Hebrews that followed Christ?

It is very significant that her faith has strengthened yours. This is confirmation that salvation comes from the Jews.

Jesus and all the Apostles were “Sabbath keepers” that celebrated the feasts.

The quest for universality precluded any possibility of Catholicism following the oral and written law. Learning and teaching the law requires universal literacy, high intelligence and intellect. Such prerequisites did not exist in the general Roman population from which Catholicism hoped to draw its new adherents. The law had to be replaced with a highly dogmatic framework behind which stands a central authority. This allowed for a set of unchanging precepts to be learned orally.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Levitical Laws and the gentiles that come into the Church were never given the Levitical Laws.
