No it was Chuck Swindoll.
If this story is true, it’s outrageous. “Pastor Chuck,” as he is called, is one of the leading figures in Evangelical Protestantism. He has written many books. He graduated from one of their stalwart seminaries. He knows very, very well that he would be distoring the Scriptures.

Honestly, I’ve listened to him many times, and I’ve never heard him mangle the Word like that. Would be sad if, in his dotage, he has come to that.😦

Chuck was covering the Book of Revelation when he referenced back to the last supper.

The program is on his archives on the 8/11/06 show at the 21 minute mark if you want to listen to it yourself. Maybe I misunderstood what he said, though I don’t think so.

Here is the link - prelude to the unveiling

I got bored when he started talking about how “God’s people will be preserved from the tribulation.”

Then around 21:10 he says that Jesus served them “bread, and a little sip of juice from a cup. Then he said ‘This bread represents my body, which will now be given for you. And this juice represents my blood.’ . . .”

It is what I heard in most Protestant churches, so I don’t see it as “abnormal.” I just find it ironic.

The audio is played in real audio, you can move the cursor to the 21 minute mark, so you don’t have to listen to the whole program.👍

But Jesus did not say “this represents”, he said “this is”.
Even if Jesus meant the eucharist to be a symbol, which I believe he didn’t, that is not what he said. If people are going to quote my Lord, please do not put words in his mouth.

That is like someone putting words in St. Pauls pen, that “we are saved by faith alone”, He never wrote that statement. It was Martin Luther who wrote that. (though he later took it out) but that is a different topic which has been well covered.

I’m not able to hear it myself, but this is the second person to have heard the same thing from Mr. Swindol.

How dare he! It’s one thing for a pastor of a small church to do this, but he is broadcasting this on a popular radio show, purporting to be teaching from the Bible.

I just feel sorry for the many Christians who depend for their teaching and their souls on people like this–liar. I don’t know what else to call him.

He’s going to hear from me, as will his seminary.
