With our “pagan, hocus pocus and superstition”.

I guess you Lutherans and Anglicans are gonna need his assistance as well because you also have what he refers to as “stupid crackers”

:rotfl:
Strikingly misinformed about the Catholic Church. And so angry too! I’m guessing that somewhere in his past is a Catholic person that really hurt him. (Just a hunch.) Pastor Anderson, I’ll pray for you and hope that you are healed from whatever hurt is driving you to preach in such an angry way.

Peace,
Robert

OK,

So I’ll start by saying most people won’t have the stamina for this but I really enjoyed watching it. It’s a discussion between Steven Anderson and James White on the King James Only movement. The full video is 2.5 hrs but its also broken into 3 shorter segments. I found it very interesting, of course there is the token Catholic discussion in there, but what struck me is the disagreement between the two.

Arboreal idolatry.

Probably mentioned in Hislop.
Ew.

If we let him know those trees behind him all have Greek and Latin scientific names, do you think he’d paint them over? It’ll be win-win; he can get back on his Trail of Blood and I can get on knowing that the plants I like aren’t cursed with his presence.

It pains me to see even painted trees in such an abusive setting. I planted a Liriodendron tulipfera in the backyard and it’s finally starting to flower. It’s beautiful. I may even have caught myself talking to it once or twice. (In my defense I was dozing in and out while re-reading some Tolkien.)

No, you’re fine with that. I occasionally talk to my trees, though the best ones at listening, my last 9 Malus angustifolia, I had to remove last year, due to apple rust. Last of my friends of many, many years standing, last of the crab apple jelly. The Magnolia grandiflora just ignore me.

I prefer cultivating the flora that was growing on my land when we moved here, 60+ years ago.Ttransplanted some more purple Tradescantia as a border, today.

I believe non-Catholics have a big problem here. This guy puts you in a difficult situation. Its easy for me, a Cathiloc, to say how much this guy is off his rocker but it will do nothing for unity or understanding, but you guys wave a much bigger stick. Will you use it?

I say again, if this were coming from a Catholic there is a mechanism to correct him. I ask again, what mechanism exist outside of Catholism that will ever stan up and correct him?

Peace!!!

I’m guessing non-Catholic Christians dont feel the need to “correct him”.

Correction, fraternal correction or admonishment, usually is done by someone close to the wrong doer.

But I agree with your point. And it’s inline with my question “How do we know he is right or wrong?”. If someone close approaches him, they would have to have grounds to do so.

I’m also guessing he has been “admonished” before. He is well aware of what he is going against.

But your point is good, if it recognizes the fact that there is no universal authority respected that can say “stop this false teaching, God forbids you to preach”. We believe in the authority of the Catholic Church. But many do not. And we also acknowledge that they can even be genuine Christians. But genuine only as far as they receive the Gospel and it’s Baptism. Beyond that, they promote this kind of preaching by being in a Communion that has levels of contempt for the Catholic Communion.

So on it will go. It is better to bear it with love than to fight it with sword. All we can do is obey what we believe is from Christ.

But brothers, even if there were no denominations to compete with the Catholic Communion, we would still have to struggle against wrong doers and false teaching within our membership.

I think we should focus on strengthening ourselves, and accept all who come for guidance and corporal needs with unconditional love.

It’s easy to say, and hard to do. Impossible to do without Jesus. But we have Jesus!

The interesting thing about this pastor is at least he has his convictions. He claims the church became corrupted right away…like the apostles weren’t even dead yet and the Church already went astray according to him.

Most people claim it was the Constantine era or beyond when the Church strayed. I guess this man just has no confidence in God to keep his Church in order.

My question would be why some of his statements don’t violate “hate speech” laws in the applicable jurisdiction.
Probably because we still have First Amendment rights in the USA. Thanks be to God.

I’m not defending this guy, but I find statements like this shocking. What you define as “hate speech”, others would define as freedom of speech and religion. Once government gets in the business of silencing the “haters” (whoever they might be), it’s only a matter of time before all Christians (Catholics included) are considered “haters” on some issue (such as sexuality/gender or abortion or women’s discrimination, etc.) as well.

When I hear about preachers being arrested in supposedly enlightened European countries for “offending” people simply by preaching their beliefs, I’m always weary of those who would like the US to follow the European example.

The answer to “hate speech” (or any speech you dislike) is not calling 911. We address hateful speech by speaking the truth in love. The answer is more speech, not less.

What surprises me is that respected individuals like Dr. White have given him the time of day. He has this hardcore KJV only mentality. I mean, I sympathize with the KJV only folks because I know the NIV and others have problems, but when you start saying you must use KJV or you don’t have the true word, and you are going to hell, then you have crossed a dangerous line. He already seems to lack the fruit of the Spirit so nothing he says surprises me. …But he is comical lol
By Dr. White I assume you mean James White? He is hardly any better with his schpeal. I mean when he’s getting decimated in a debate, he will shamelessly trot out all these mythical Catholic wrongs as fact, even though scholarship has long ago dismissed them as antiCatholic legend

He says outrageous things to get attention. Dr. White pointed this out.

He comes from a family of pastors. And his sister Patty is a Catholic convert. So i think he may have a axe to grind.
Would explain a lot.

He has a PhD and Pastor Anderson holds no degrees but has memorized bible verses. It actually says that on his website(paraphrase).

Too funny. I know this guy from his exploits with the Border Patrol. On youtube, enter “steven anderson and border patrol” if you want some entertainment. He won a court case against the BP for beating him silly and tazing him at a checkpoint. He is one of those who refuse to show id or roll down window. I still don’t understand why people like him spend so much time discussing the RC faith with his own congregants. I guess they have to fill their hour somehow…
I’m glad you mention that because I didn’t realize it was the same guy. I remember one video where the Border Patrol stopped him and asked him if he was a US citizen. Clutching his Bible he said a more important question is what must I do to be saved. He said he’d be happy to talk to the Border Patrol agent about it. The agent let him go without him showing ID or answering his question.

White has a ThD from an unaccredited ‘seminary’ operating out of a room inside a Baptist church, and he’s faculty. I assume he is connected to the church as well. One may call him “Dr.” bemusingly and inform him of the verse in Truthtelling Chap 1 verse 6, “call no man doctor, when his claimed degree is unrecognized by any scholarship save himself”. And he has the gaul to diminish Catholics respecting their clergy with familial affection

I just hope everyone understands that Pastor Anderson does represent Protestantism.

EDIT → I just hope everyone understands that Pastor Anderson does **NOT **represent Protestantism

I’m assuming you missed this part accidentally?

Well you know what they say: what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. I have numerous Protestant friends who believe that if a Catholic says something here then it represents Catholicism. Shouldn’t it then be equally true that Anderson’s statement represent Protestantism?

“With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.” Matthew 7:2

What’s Protestantism?
It cannot be defined by what it is, only by what it mimics and what it is not, also varying in each instance according to the convenience of the presenter and/or perceiver. Analagous to an elephant in a dark cave being described to each other by 15 children speaking varying languages
