Hi Everyone,

I am trying to get information about a career in pastoral counselling. I am Canadian. Living overseas. Are there distance education programs? Does one need an undegrad degree in theology? My undergrad degree is in business and my masters in education. What are the job prospects like for the future?

The person I know who is a pastoral counselor is a licensed psychologist who works for a diocese. She meets the requirements of other psychologists as far as education and training but practices in a Catholic setting rather than a secular one.

Have you had classes in psychology/counseling/social work or other similar areas?
 
There are actual graduate degrees in Pastoral Counseling offered by many Catholic institutions.
