Shlama 'Amkhon!

To my fellow Assyro-Chaldean Catholics, our eparchy in San Diego put out a pastoral letter last year, which dealt with some topics. If you haven’t read it yet, shame on you, and yalla go read it now!!! 🙂

For our other Catholic brethren, of various traditions (including our esteemed suryoyo member malphono rabbo :D), the above document deals with some current information on the Chaldean Church, which may be of interest to you.

God bless,

Rony

Wow. That’s quite the letter.

This is informative, as I know nothing about the Chaldean Church. Is there something in this document that is groundbreaking or a shock? Regardless, thank you for the post – learned something new today!

trevor1055,

There may be some words or statements in this document that can come across as groundbreaking or shocking to those unfamiliar with my particular church and/or the Assyrian-Chaldean tradition in general, but to those of us who are lifelong members, this document is a good summary of what we already knew and understood about our church and tradition.

God bless,

Rony

There was some discussion a few months back if I remember correctly, about Chaldean liturgy, but I cannot remember the details anymore.

Regardless, interesting letter. Thanks for sharing it.

jwinch2,

You’re welcome… 🙂

In regards to the liturgy, our church is in the midst of restoring her liturgy to a more authentic form. Here is a link to the issue of the liturgy:

kaldu.org/joomla/index.php/liturgy/the-reformed-chaldean-mass/95-liturgy/the-reformed-chaldean-mass/80-q-and-a-on-the-reformed-chaldean-mass

Here is a paragraph from the above link:

===================
Secondly, over the centuries, the Chaldean Mass had been added to and changed in a disorganized and sometimes sloppy way. A Reform was needed to “clean up” what was sloppy while keeping all that was of value. This is especially the case with “Latinizations,” or things added or changed in the Mass simply as an imitation of the Latin Rite, which can be contradictory to the flow and meaning of the Chaldean liturgical structure.

Even though it is called a “reform”, it is more like a “restoration”. Our new Patriarch is committed to this liturgical restoration.

God bless,

Rony

I am glad to hear that your patrimony is being restored to you, and pray it goes well.

Good for you guys, thank God. Now only if the Maronites would follow suit :p.
