Does anyone know how Pat Buchanan would respond to this?

Illegal immigrants fulfill a necessary component for our economy. They do jobs most Americans wont do. This keeps costs low and keeps those business(that hire them) afloat. If the businesses that hire illegals had to hire workers at min wage then those businesses would have to raise costs. This would put added strain on the American economy.

Feel free to also respond.

Why don’t you ask him?🙂
I’m for legal folk doing the jobs myself. Being illegal means being exploited.
Immigration’s fine. We all got here from some other place-unless your ancestors were Indians, & even they came from other shores way, way back.
Find a way to let people work legally.Deport the drug dealers.

Actually most illegals make more than minimum wage. The reason they are hired is quid pro quo (this for that), do you really expect a Ph D to mow the yard at $100/hr? or is a $50/mow with no future obligation better.

He would say that if there weren’t illegals doing the jobs the employers would have to pay a little more to get legal workers and that would provide jobs for the low-skilled Americans who have trouble finding work.

While I cannot speak for Mr. Buchanan, I can say that part of the problem with the current immigrations situation is the fact that in many cases, people are exploited because they are illegal. They work at below market wages and in unsafe conditions with few if any benefits. Their employers are able to maintain these conditions because they know that the workers cannot/will not report them for fear of being deported. If the immigrant workforce were legal and documented, these workers would not be able to be exploited in such a manner.

This is why we need strict border security AND a common sense immigration policy that allows people who are going to work and obey the law to come in legally with as little red tape as possible.

However, with unemployment at around 7.5% and rising, the need for immigrant labor may not be particularly high at the moment.
