Well…My best friend is a nurse with a specialty in Geriatrics.
She said about a year ago, that Robertson is demonstrating many of the signs of Alzheimer’s-like dementia, & that “he is only ‘with it’ once or twice a week, in a good week”…She has been very upset that he is continuing to appear on TV, as though he were still OK, because he has influence over so many people.
When I saw this endorsement, I just groaned to myself: “Looks like Jo called this one some time ago”…Robertson thinks he is OK, & many people are willing to follow him…The only good thing in all of this, is that his inability to reason has finally showed itself in a way that his followers (some of them, at least) will recognize as such. (I hope so, anyhow…).
I have never cared for the man, but this has to be one of the lowest points in a long time. I remember the hurricane idiocy that Kevan mentioned, but that was just weird. This is a betrayal of everything he has claimed to stand for…

I lost all respect for Pat Robertson when he ran for President several years ago. During his brief campaign he made a number of misleading and downright false claims about himself. I would neither believe him nor trust him.

Just one comment (maybe two).

Maybe 10-20 years ago, Pat Robertson had a lot of influence in EvangelicalLand.

Not so today. Most folks I know consider him kind of kooky.

This endorsement might harm more than help.

Anyway, it would be one thing to endorse this candidate in the general election as the lesser of two evils. I’m not sure I agree with it, but at least I understand it. It is another thing to endorse this candidate when clearly from a Christian values thing he is the worst of all alternatives.

But then again, Brother Pat is kind of a kook.

In my country most evangelicas look at him as a the beloved but half senile uncle that is more a embarrasment that anthing else. He shoudl learn to retire with dignity.

This really didn’t surprise me at all actually. The multi-million-dollar Protestant televangelists have agendas far and above what they claim them to be. There is much more behind this than just endorsing who he thinks would be the best president to be sure.

It did not surprise me of Pat Robertson’s endorsement. The candidate in question is not a practicing Catholic, has been divorced several times, and is, basically, a ‘hawk’ when it comes to war. It sounds like a perfect Robertson candidate for president!😛

What I find ironic is that many from the evangical position started from the basis of separation of Church and State, effectively moving the governments more toward a secular state than a Catholic one.

While this certainly doesn’t speak for all evengelicals, it certainly seems to be a movement within the contemporary streams of evangelical thought to now merge religion and politics once again. Perhaps it was never really about the sepatation of Church and State at all for some. It seems to me that it was more the separation of the Catholic Church with the particular government than anythng else. I suspect this of Luther for example.

This movement I’m currently reading about certainly seems to confirm this suspicions within some evangelical groups anyway. And, to be clear, I don’t think this speaks for all evangelicals either.

I used to watch him and the ministery years ago.
My same feelings I saw the signs coming about 5 years ago and I think he has maintained control of his ministery so it is hard to get the reins out of his hands unless he is clinically declared ill.
Who can do that ? I think only his doc with consulting his wife and children.
D.

You got it. Bingo. The early public schools in the US were basically Protestant schools. its why the Catholic school system was started. But in modern times when Protestans no longer control public education many of them are critical of it.

Its all about power IMO - whether you are catholic, Protestant or something else.

Its an epiphany I came to one day and its why I’m strongly decline to state.

Yes well, Robertson has already made bogus prophecies which he claimed were given to him by God which when exposed to the philosophy of the second glance proved to be false. That’s all I need to know about him. That being the case, why should I be suprised that he would endorse a pro-abortion candidate?

I was quite shocked by Pat Robertson’s endorsement of this pro-abortion and pro-homosexuality candidate. I found it to be quite disgusting. I always thought Pat Robertson was a conservative and now I have to wonder.

Because this seems to be a departure from his formely strong pro-life position. I have to admit that years ago I used to enjoy Pat Robertson’s show-- the 700 Club.

Perhaps Zooey has a good point regarding Alzeimers. Robertson is getting older too. Certainly, Luther, in his later years, got quite crotchety and irritable with various doctrines.

Money talks…I bet Mr Robertson has just received a large “gift donation” from this politician. I’m not saying that he can be bought, I’m just saying that maybe he can be rented for a little while 😉

That would be too easy to trace and expose. Even if Robertson is loopy enough to do it, his aides should have been able to correct it.

This Pat Robertson endorsement shows only one thing, the religious right and evangelicals don’t give one care about abortion or family or whatever else they scream about… all they truly care about is unleashing nukes on the middle east, killing Muslims, ushering world war 3 with their insane “rapture” blasphemy and causing war and chaos worldwide, hoping to use the US military as their tool. Catholics, Orthodox, and traditional Lutherans and Protestants need to instantly distance themselves as far away from these fanatics as quick as possible.

It’s the war on terror vs pro-life issues and we see the former wins hands down! Hmmm, it’s easy to ‘talk’ pro-life, but when it comes down to a choice between the security of “we the living” and that of the unborn…

I always knew the fight for life was not to be fought in the political arena but rather with prayer and Christian witness, so none of this surprises me. It probably will surprise the activists who swear by the political approach.

Hopefully this (and disappointments to come) will turn the anti-abortion fight squarely away from political activism and more toward evangelization; the former may involve only lip-service to the cause, the latter demands Christian action.

I STILL say that Robertson endorsed that specific candidate because that candidate is a lapsed Catholic, is not a practicing Catholic, has been married more than once, and is hanging onto national security - which I think is also a big reason. Any time you have a lapsed Catholic you can bet nonCatholic Christians will endorse the candidate.

Dennis Miller on the O’Reiley factor alluded to such tonight, and there was a full piece in the Op-Ed section of the New York Times recently (a feew weeks ago?) which argued as much. I hate the argument. I think you have to be totally out of your mind to think that a person who openly supports abortion on demand is going to play a role in appointing judges who will overturn Roe v. Wade.
I hate that argument as well, Catholicism 101 teaches doing evil is not ok even if good may result.

It just goes to show that without a solid foundation Protestantism can slide very easily and with few if any objections. This further shows that “conservative” on the political spectrum has shifted past the “center” into the left half.

When Protestants use the term “conservative” today they dont realize their actual position is left of center. When so many divorced people are representing “conservative” ideology then something is seriously wrong with this picture. Pat is going down the road of moral compromise and the results are hardly ever (if ever) in favor of the Gospel.
