I have had a problem with certain sins of thought which amount to obsessive/compulsive behavior. They are not sexual thoughts but related to ideology. When I was young it was very powerful and frightening, I was not yet a Catholic and it took years to control the ideas that were at the root of the problem after deciding that I couldn’t live that way or have a happy life. I began a total overhaul of study and prayer and now the problem is minimal. I am curious about things like temptation, inclinations to sin, sinful attachments, circumstances and environment which can bring on an episode, the nature of affection and prediliction to sin, spiritual direction, how to make a REALLY good confession, and does one have to pay for sin for the rest of one’s life???
