:rotfl: Hey Dove!
Where’d this come from? It’s pretty weird and though I have some serious misgivings about the Patriot Act myself and the powers it gives and the liberties that it infringes upon, this might be a tad farther than I’d even go (at this point).
What do you think?

The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding. – Louis D. Brandeis, ‘Olmstead’ v. ‘the United States’”

"It is a fortunate thing for society that the courts do not get the same chance at the Ten Commandments as they do at the Constitution of the United States." – Philander C. Johnson, ‘Senator Sorghum’s Primer of Politics’ 🙂
Pax vobiscum,

Oh, it’s from a wacky Christian site. (See the Pope JPII is in Hell thread) The site is filled with exteme views, but I liked those posters.

I think the Patriot Act has the potential for abuse, but I doubt if it will ever touch my life one way or another.

I feel like the prayer for the Czar in “Fiddler On The Roof”.
When asked if there was a prayer for the Czar he said:
“A prayer for the Czar? Of course there’s a prayer for the Czar! ‘God bless and keep the Czar…far away from us.’”

I loved that Rabbi. Then, everyone around him spat on the ground! 😃 That movie is great…

So far, the only times I have been personally affected by the Patriot Act have been at the airport and I blame that on the terrorists responsible for 911 rather than on the Patriot Act.

Wait till Hillary is president. You can bet she’ll use it to go after her political enemies…alot of the people on this forum no doubt.

All I know is when the citizens of Arizona started to watch the border ourselves, we are having a lot of good results. Even though the ACLU is having fits.

I believe the Patriot Act, while flawed in some areas is an integral part in fighting the war on terror…It has given law enforcement the abilities to collect data and fight these terrorist preemptively before they strike. It has broken down the communication barriers that once existed between the intelligence gathering communities and has proven itself a vital tool so far, such as thwarting the Brooklyn Bridge bomb plot, etc.

Pardon my ignorance, but from what I gather, the Patriot Act seems like an anti-terrorist version of the anti-mafia RICO laws. Am I going wrong somewhere when comparing the two?

No…you are pretty much right…but there are those in this country that cry about their liberties being stepped on and their freedom restricted, etc…I wonder if they want some cheese with that WINE…what I find funniest is that the people who scream more and more about losing their freedoms are the ones least likely to fight for freedom…mostly hippies and conscientous objectors, etc… in the case of the Patriot Act, the end justifies the means…It is effective and it has thwarted potential attacks…people need to stop and consider what really matters…the government possibly reading your emails, or your family and 4,000 other Americans being brutally slaughtered…I personally don’t send any incriminating evidence via email or have shady conversations via the telephone, so I could care less.

Way to go Dum! 👍

BTW, cell phones are not secure either. The only form of communication that I don’t think can be eavesdropped on is the mail?

Everything else is fair game and pretty easy to do.
