To the shock and dismay of the ACLU, Americans generally let out a big yawn at the supposed daunting threat of the USA PATRIOT Act. An ABC-Washington Post poll shows that a near filibuster proof majority of Americans (59%) favor extending the PATRIOT Act, which grants expanded investigational authority to the FBI in terrorism investigations. Though certain proposed changes were met with less enthusiasm, the poll demonstrates that most Americans get it when it comes to using every tool at our disposal to combat terrorism on American soil.

Sure, that’s natural political lethargy. Didn’t the German middle class let out a big yawn in the late 20s at the supposed daunting threat of the Nazis coming into power?

Also, America hasn’t used every tool at its disposal to combat terrorism on American soil. The government could simply shoot anyone arrested on suspicion of terrorism. Unfortunately, the stinking liberals keep insisting that it follow due process in prosecutions.

The Patriot Act is nothing more than using the same crime-fighting techniques against mobsters and applying them to terrorists.

Does it give me pause?? Sure. Absolutely. But I’m not lethargic in my political attention span, and on balance, I like the Patriot Act. It works.
