Is anyone familiar with this ? I understand it is a Catholic Bible, but I don’t know anything else about it. Does Pattloch refer to the translator or where it’s from?

What little I can find on it seems to indicate that it was a Catholic translation in the latter half of the 1950s that apparently tried to modernize the language and doesn’t seem to have been all that successful. 🤷

I mean look at the Douay-Rheims Bible and even the Confraternity versions and they were/are pretty good even now. (I have both).

Where did you come across it?

It was mentioned in a book I was reading. The author referenced the notes and commentary.

So I was curious. Never heard of it. Googling didn’t really help because I couldn’t find a site for it or any quotes from it. Wickipedia wasn’t much help. Another thing is that I think it might be German or at least European. Doesn’t seem to have been released in the US.

Love a good mystery.
 
Pattloch Verlag is a German publishing house. The Pattloch translation was published in 1955 (OT) 1956 (NT) and revised in 1962 (OT) 1979 (NT). The principal translators were Vinzenz Hamp, Meinrad Stenzel and Josef Kürzinger. Here is a basic description; and you can easily buy the translation on Amazon.de – there are many, many editions, such as this one.
