What is believed it contained ? If it were essential to Salvation, why did HS allow it to be lost ? If later discovered, would it make it into the Canon ?

The apocryphal Epistle to the Laodiceans that we have today is pretty much universally acknowledged as not being from Paul and is rarely included in Catholic editions of the Bible these days.
Some people have proposed that the Epistle to the Ephesians is in fact the lost epistle to the Laodiceans, but I personally am not convinced. Even if the address to the Ephesians is in fact a later, non-inspired addition as is sometimes claimed the letter would more likely be one for circulation throughout the region than the letter sent specifically to Laodicea that Paul mentions in Colossians, or so it seems to me.
My suspician is that the letter to the Laodicians was not inspired and/or that God meant it only to be available to the earliest Christians. In any case we have all the Bible that God providentially intended for us to have today.

Even with all of “Man’s” meddling with the written form of the bible over the ages (and especially the last 2K years), it seems fairly certain that GOD has allowed to survive (that process) what is needed, if not an absolutely perfect reflection of HIS WORD.
I think that the most important notion is one that inductive reasoning, when it comes to discerning GOD’s WILL, only increases the odds of moving away from it. .
