Do Priests, Deacons or Bishops recieve a salary , pay or material goods for their church positions or callings; or do they hold other “jobs” or careers for their livelyhoods and serve the church without pay?

Can. 281 §1. Since clerics dedicate themselves to ecclesiastical ministry, they deserve remuneration which is consistent with their condition, taking into account the nature of their function and the conditions of places and times, and by which they can provide for the necessities of their life as well as for the equitable payment of those whose services they need.
§2. Provision must also be made so that they possess that social assistance which provides for their needs suitably if they suffer from illness, incapacity, or old age.
§3. Married deacons who devote themselves completely to ecclesiastical ministry deserve remuneration by which they are able to provide for the support of themselves and their families. Those who receive remuneration by reason of a civil profession which they exercise or have exercised, however, are to take care of the needs of themselves and their families from the income derived from it.

Im not sure where this is from ? I can’t find it in the CCC. What are you quoting from ? Do you have a scripture reference that states clerics should recieve pay for their services because the only ones I can find say they should preach for free ?

1 peter 5: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

1 cor 9: 18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

thank you

Even Protestant Preachers, regardless of scripture, receive compensation for them to provide basic needs for their household.

I do not see why they would not receive compensation for their devotion.

Although I’m not yet Catholic, I’ve read that most Priests receive pay, however Deacons usually hold a full time job.

The priests and bishops are labourers sent into the harvest;

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest.

Who ought to be paid…

For the scripture saith: Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn: and, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

And…because Judas was the Treasurer of the Apostles and Christ;

29 For some thought, because Judas had the purse,

He purchased provisions on their behalf;

[because some thought Jesus had said to Judas]: ‘Buy those things which we have need of for the festival day: or that he should give something to the poor.’

And because…

32 And the multitude of believers had but one heart and one soul: neither did any one say that aught of the things which he possessed, was his own; but all things were common unto them.

So it is that the labourers in the harvest are paid from a common purse what they need.

That being said, it is usually very little, and some priests I hear about make stuff, like artwork, to sell - to help pay the bills. Others, like anyone else, inherit property or money from their families etc., etc.
Priests in religous orders take a vow of poverty, though.

secular priests receive a salary, pay taxes and SS, have a pension plan, health care, sometimes a mileage allowance and so forth. How else would you propose they eat, live, get medical care, drive around the parish as they serve etc? Welfare?

for a priest in a religious order it depends on the order. Those who take a vow of poverty consider everything they have belongs to the order. If they receive a salary for the service they do, that is returned to the order, who provides for their needs.

The salary for a parish priest is set by the diocese, the same for all priests, and some parishes provide a house, some do not. He may receive a housing allowance if there is no parish house. It is unusual for a parish priest to work less than 60 hrs a week nowdays, and if the parish has missions he may also put in a lot of mileage.

The Church takes up a regular collection to pay for care of the elderly retired religious and priests who worked in the days when many received no salary, so did not pay into SS, to keep them from destitution.

Acts implies in several places that the congregation pays for the support of the priests, deacons and bishops.

Bishops and priests receive a salary (it may be different for those in Religious Orders, depending on the Rule for that Order). Permanent Deacons normally have regular secular employment (or other source of income, such as secular retirement pensions) and are not paid for their service to the Church.
