sounds like they are giving without wondering where it will go. not sure where the people with stupid stories comes from, an earlier post maybe?
I give without taking concern over where the money will go but I don’t give to those folks who are obviously making yo a false and annoying story in hopes that I will give them the specific amount they want

If someone wants money just ask for it or even better be as honest as the afore mentioned guy and say. “Could you give me a couple of bucks so I can buy some beer”

Honesty is so refreshing nowadays

funny, there was a young man who looked to be healthy, with a sign, ‘will work for food’ on the way into lowe’s the other day, and on the lowe’s door was a ‘now hiring’ poster.

this is painting with a broad brush, do you feel this way about catholic charities?
Since, the website can be sensitive about giving out names I can’t name the Catholic organization I have in mind. I work hands on with the poor and yes, that includes the Catholic organizations such as you mentioned.

Maybe they wouldn’t take him for whatever reason. We don’t know his situation. 🤷
Wow… so 5 bucks is that easy for you to give away? Down here, that’s a whole day’s pay for me (and I’m promoted)!

It says something that your country’s poor can possibly get more money than what a two-year, middle-class employee gets in this one.

But you know, I actually don’t mind. I love my job. Enjoy my pay. What I may not love though is the idea that some people can ask for five U.S. dollars on an international, online board and think it’s sooooo easy for everyone.

I can barely afford 50 cents for snacks and that’s a luxury in the Philippines. Funny huh? 👍
Woah. I knew the relative prices were different, but that’s a big difference. Five bucks is enough for a decent meal (maybe two, if you stretch it), but it’s not going to cover much else around here. :hypno:

True Kamaduck, Let’s say that fellow saw the sign. The way the economy is with 400 plus applicants looking for work at the same time and on top of that let’s say he is homeless, possibly doesn’t have a phone, since he is homeless he may not be able to be clean for an interview. It becomes a much greater task getting the job the normal way. It is easy to Judge! I now know and understand Christ’s last words ‘forgive them father for they do not know what they do’ People can be lazy in thought, quick to judge according to human standards which are far lower than God’s standards. Now, if you were to *look through it through God’s standard *He may just say sitting out there begging for work or food is a JOB. Furthermore, our Lord asks us to leave everything behind, walking stick, tunic, and other items and go follow Him. Jesus, came for the poor and weak. Not the rich and proud.👍

Let’s continue to not only pray for the poor and homeless but let us do something about it. Yesterday I came across a guy who was homeless and looked homeless (new homeless). He had a large green army carry on bag slung over his shoulder and was dragging a large shelled suitcase on wheels. He had a great smile on his face and was wondering why everyone wasn’t as happy as he was. I can now understand that joy he felt. God Bless him. I wish him well. It was a too brief encounter to help him but I would like to know how he keeps so positive in such a difficult place.:hmmm:

you must be in a tough part of the country. there are plenty of jobs around here. we’re down to the perennially homeless, but they need our help too. mentally ill, (they closed all the mental hospitals back in the 80’s) drug addicts, unwed mothers and the like. they fill the homeless shelters and stretch the social budget to bursting.(both public and catholic like saint vincent depaul) God bless 'em!👍

Not tough at all. I’m in the health field and I’m aware of the closures of those facilities in the late 80’s early 90’s. So where is this heavenly place you live at so I can send you a few of our homeless 😉

I don’t agree with giving money directly to homeless because so many of them are addicted to drugs. They can’t help themselves and use it to buy drugs instead of food. However, it is still possible to give back to them. Giving them food directly instead of money will ensure they can’t use your gift for drugs. I don’t let homeless people in the car, but I will meet them at a store within a few hundred feet (walking distance)
Offering food is a good idea…but what if they just ate? Why does it hurt to give $$$ to the poor and or homeless?? I haven’t mastered it yet but what I need to do is ASK THEM what they need not what we think or want to give.🤷

Asking what the poor may need is a skill I still need to master. I’m more prone on giving them what *I feel *they need rather than ask them of their needs. There are always new lessons to learn from:D

I’ll have to buy the New Testament bibles to carry around with me.

I spoke to a homeless gentleman for awhile and he was a veteran of the Gulf Wars. He is one of many sitting outside waiting for a good Samaritan to give him some money for fresh or hot food. He drinks beers as well but you wouldn’t blame him after you’ve heard what he experienced in the sands of the East; witnessing live beheadings, skin extraction of live people, and witnessing his own comrades being blown up to bits by homemade bombs. Another gentle giant that drinks with him is a military vet as well. They have served their country well so you never know who may need of your help or services.

and how sad that our retired veterans have to live on the streets with our trillion dollar military budget.😦

my best guess is that he may be suffering from a pt stress disorder and doesn’t want to be confined to a building but would rather survive on the streets.:banghead::hypno:
