My friend is involved with this church group that hands out a variety of titles to its members. One such title is almost like the role a Catholic godmother plays in the life of a young person. Ever since I knowed her, she didn’t go there all the time but only sometimes. So they’re like, “If you want us to honor you with OUR special religious title, then you need to start coming more to church and especially paying up when the plate gets past around, and don’t think we aren’t keeping track!” THEN, we will consider giving you that title you want so bad." So I’m all, “That church you go to really bites because basically all they want is to get your money and save face by making you seem to earn your title by attending.” So, all in all, my friend is paying in both time and money for this OH SO SPECIAL title and they don’t even care what her actual spiritual life is really like. I think this is not a sincere religion she is part of, and to me, the whole point of a religious title is that you are a good and righteous person who is provibly worthy. Anyone can go to a church and pay money (that gets kept track of), so in reality ANYONE can get that title if they want. Does anyone see a problem here with acountability?
