Well. That is special. Primetime on Christmas, and they are running Shakespeare’s least historical, most propagandistic play. And the theme is that killing a bad leader is awesome, as long as you are a Tudor.

Yeah, I am feeling all the warm fuzziness already.

Full disclosure: I tend to be a Ricardian, so I take badly the false portrayal of one of England’s best and most people-serving, family-loving, dutiful kings. But even if I were not, it is not a classy choice for Christmas viewing.

I agree with you 100% (a fellow Ricardian). But take heart, at least they didn’t do Titus Andronicus.

I would suggest people read, instead, “The Daughter of Time” by Josephine Tey for a masterly study of the case against Richard III. For the average Joe or Jane who is not a historian (credentialed) but is a reasonably intelligent and literate ‘reader’, it will be quite a revelation!

I watched the first part - loved it. I taped the second; still need to watch it. I must admit Richard III is my probably my least favorite monarch, Shakespeare play…doubt I’ll be watching it exactly on Christmas, but will tape it. The acting is superb.
